We really enjoyed our stay in site #42. The rangers were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The campgrounds are well kept and the comfort station was clean. The showers were free for registered campers and the laundry seemed to be a good price. The park rents out a family hiking backpack, which is awesome, I wish more parks did that. This served as a great location to see the town of Trinidad, drive the Highway of Legends and to see the leaves changing. Highly recommend this state park.

We camped 6/20 thru 6/22 at Carios Ridge. It was our first time to stay there and thoroughly enjoyed the location. The park is well-managed and the restrooms and showers were great! There is also boat ramp for water access and don't forget to see Danielle at the visitor center who will check you into your campsite but also answer all of your questions and can give insights and tips about the park and suggestions to enhance your stay. She's really great! One unique feature I love is that

Well organized with clean bathrooms and a dump station. We were there Feb 2026. Almost no one else was. Water is off in CG and at dump station though one could dump but not rinse tanks. Camp sights are very close together. A bit expensive too. Unique iridium layer viewing trail. The layer left by the asteroid 65 million years ago that destroyed the dinosaurs. We got cell service on Verizon.

Beautiful views. The angle of the site with a drop off/ditch made it interesting to back into. No sewer or water at the site we were in but the bath house was nearby and there are multiple water spigots throughout park to fill up fresh water tank if needed. The camp worker was very nice and the park rangers drove through several times a day.
