About Midway Campground

Campground in Florida.

Midway Campground sits along the scenic Tamiami Trail in Florida, offering RV travelers a peaceful retreat in a region known for its natural beauty and unique ecosystem. Located at 52870 Tamiami Trail, this public campground serves as an excellent base for exploring Southwest Florida's diverse landscape, from pristine waterways to abundant wildlife viewing opportunities.

The surrounding area is characterized by the natural splendor of the Big Cypress National Preserve and the gateway to the Everglades, making this an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. The Tamiami Trail itself is a legendary route that stretches across Florida, and camping here puts you right in the heart of some of the state's most distinctive terrain. Whether you're interested in fishing, boating, hiking, or simply immersing yourself in Florida's wild character, the location offers ready access to these activities.

The region's appeal extends to wildlife observation, with opportunities to spot native birds, alligators, and other species that call South Florida home. The wet season brings lush vegetation and active waterways, while the dry season offers comfortable temperatures and excellent visibility for exploring the natural areas. Photography enthusiasts will find endless subjects in the unique landscape and lighting conditions available throughout the year.

Beyond the natural attractions, the area provides convenient access to small towns and services along the Tamiami Trail corridor. Local fishing spots are plentiful for those interested in freshwater angling, and boat launches are available for exploring Florida's waterways. The campground's location makes it suitable for RV travelers seeking a quieter, more nature-focused experience compared to busier coastal destinations.

This campground appeals to a wide range of visitors: retirees looking for peaceful winter camping, families wanting to experience Florida's natural side, outdoor enthusiasts planning Everglades or Big Cypress adventures, and travelers seeking an authentic Florida experience away from theme parks and crowded tourist zones. I came into the park without a reservation. Camp host Lola could have ended it there, but she believed a spot may be available due to the tenant leaving early. She was able to confirm the rv guest departed for good and provided me a place to stay. She displayed kindness, empathy, above and beyond professionalism and a friendly smile.

Between Miami and Naples on the old Alligator Alley, this out-of-the-way and peaceful campground is a good value. ✓ The groundskeeper keeps the park beautiful and well-groomed; ✓ Mosquitos were not a nuisance; ✓ Level RV pads; ✓ Shady spots on the East side of the lake; ✓ If you're wary of falling acorns, park on the West side of the lake; ✓ Paved road around the lake is good for kids on scooters... If you want to get out of the world to escape the Rat Race and phone calls from busybodies in your life, THIS is the place for you! Practically no WiFi and sketchy phone service. 👍 (Texts DO go through on average, just in case of emergencies, at least for us ... we have Verizon.)

Exceptional campground located off Tamiami Trail. The sites around a small lake. It’s very quiet and peaceful. There is a dump station and potable water, but no water hook ups at the campsite. There’s also about 8 tent site available. Book on recreation.gov before arriving. Close to shark Valley.
