About ALBENI COVE

Federal campground in Idaho.

Nestled along the pristine shores of Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho, Albeni Cove offers RV travelers a gateway to one of the most beautiful alpine lake environments in the Pacific Northwest. This public campground provides an ideal base for exploring the stunning natural landscape that defines this region, where mountains meet water in a dramatic display of wilderness beauty.

Lake Pend Oreille itself is a remarkable destination, stretching over 43 miles through the Idaho Panhandle and reaching depths that make it one of the deepest lakes in the United States. The lake's crystalline waters invite visitors to enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, and water sports throughout the warmer months. Anglers particularly appreciate the lake's excellent populations of Kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, and bull trout, making Albeni Cove a favorite among fishing enthusiasts who want to launch directly from their RV home base.

The surrounding area offers much more than just water recreation. The vast expanses of national forest land nearby provide endless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. Hikers will find trails ranging from leisurely lakeside walks to more challenging mountain ascents, each offering rewarding views of the Selkirk Mountains and the lake below. Fall visitors particularly cherish the region for its spectacular autumn foliage, while spring and early summer bring wildflower displays and active wildlife viewing opportunities.

The nearby town of Sandpoint, located just a short drive away, adds cultural dimension to your camping experience. This charming community features local restaurants, shops, and the well-known Sandpoint Beach, which hosts various summer events and festivals. The area's rich history, influenced by its logging heritage and outdoor recreation culture, adds depth to your understanding of this compelling corner of Idaho.

Albeni Cove welcomes RV campers who seek a genuine connection with nature without venturing too far from convenient amenities. Whether you're an avid angler, outdoor enthusiast, or simply someone seeking peaceful days beside a magnificent mountain lake, this location delivers the authentic Pacific Northwest experience many travelers dream about. The combination of outdoor recreation opportunities, scenic beauty, and access to local attractions makes this public campground a compelling choice for extended stays or weekend getaways throughout the year.

But dang it was beautiful with fantastic swimming and easy paddling.

Really lovely campground, friendly hosts, nice showers (included with camp fee). There are outdoor showers for day use folks. River is really pretty- it looks like a lake. Perfect for paddle boarding

This place is amazing. We were looking for lakes to swim at and everywhere was either packed or didnt exactly have public access and then we remembered about this place. I remember coming here and camping once when i was a kid and then after my grandmother died. Its so peaceful and quiet. Its my happy place.

Amazing place to stay! We were immediately greeted by the camp host who helped us get signed in/registered. Our site (012) was RIGHT up against the water.
