Nestled in one of North America's deepest river gorges, Hells Canyon National Recreation Area offers RV campers an extraordinary escape into dramatic wilderness. Located in Idaho, this remarkable destination showcases some of the most stunning geological formations and rugged natural beauty in the Pacific Northwest. The Hells Canyon, carved by the Snake River over millions of years, plunges nearly 8,000 feet from rim to river, creating a landscape of towering cliffs, dense forests, and pristine waterways that captivate visitors year-round.

The recreation area spans across portions of Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, providing diverse camping and outdoor experiences for every type of adventurer. Whether you're drawn to world-class fishing, exhilarating white-water rafting, or serene hiking trails that wind through breathtaking canyon country, Hells Canyon delivers unforgettable memories. The area is particularly renowned among anglers, as the Snake River and its tributaries teem with smallmouth bass, sturgeon, and steelhead, making it a premier destination for fishing enthusiasts seeking trophy-sized catches.

This is the perfect destination for RV travelers who crave authentic wilderness experiences without sacrificing camping comfort. The scenic drives through the region are magnificent, with winding roads that offer panoramic views at nearly every turn. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with keen observers spotting black bears, mountain lions, elk, and bighorn sheep in their natural habitat. Bird watchers will find endless opportunities to spot golden eagles, osprey, and numerous songbird species soaring above the canyon walls.

The recreation area caters to outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels. Families enjoy leisurely walks and picnicking in scenic spots, while experienced backpackers tackle challenging multi-day treks. Jet boat tours operate seasonally, providing an accessible way to experience the canyon's interior for those who prefer water-based adventures. The area's remote setting means lower crowds and minimal light pollution, making stargazing an exceptional evening activity under some of the clearest night skies in the region.

Spring and fall bring moderate temperatures and vibrant wildflowers, while summer offers longer days for extended exploration. Winter transforms the higher elevations into a peaceful, snow-covered landscape ideal for those seeking solitude. The nearby historic towns of Joseph and Enterprise, Oregon, provide charming stops for supplies, local cuisine, and cultural experiences that complement your canyon adventure. RV travelers will appreciate the relatively unspoiled character of this area, where nature remains the primary attraction and modern development takes a respectful backseat to preservation and conservation.

Closest place to camp with hookups for Hells canyon fishing has a boat ramp. Shouldn't give it five stars it's already hard to get a spot. I stay here once a year for a week. Spots are easy to get in and out of I just dont know if you can pull in another way because my power cord is not long enough. You may not have water if it's to cold. You may wake up to a group of dear.

This is a well maintained site. There is a single shower, flush toilets, well watered and maintained lawn/grass areas. The RV spts here are simple roadside camping. There are not sites as much as they are wide parking spaces. Tent spaces are large and spacious but not very flat with most of them on a hillside. It's a pretty view of the lake and mountains. There is a dump station across the road.
