About Tent camping only

Campground in Idaho.

Idaho's public campgrounds offer some of the most authentic and immersive outdoor experiences in the Pacific Northwest. These tent-only camping destinations are perfect for travelers seeking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of RV park life and reconnect with nature in its purest form. Whether you're a seasoned backpacker, a family looking to introduce children to camping, or someone simply wanting to escape to the wilderness, Idaho's public campgrounds provide an ideal setting for memorable outdoor adventures.

Idaho is renowned for its stunning natural landscape, featuring dramatic mountain ranges, pristine alpine lakes, and dense forests teeming with wildlife. The state's public campgrounds are strategically located to provide easy access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. Many are situated near major hiking trails, fishing spots, and scenic vistas that showcase the raw beauty of the American wilderness. The region experiences four distinct seasons, each offering unique recreational opportunities and breathtaking views.

These campgrounds attract a diverse range of visitors throughout the year. Summer months bring families, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts eager to explore mountain trails and enjoy warm evenings under the stars. Spring and fall attract those seeking cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, while winter appeals to hardy adventurers and those interested in snow camping experiences. The tent-only designation ensures a quieter, more intimate camping atmosphere where you can truly immerse yourself in the natural environment.

The surrounding areas near Idaho's public campgrounds typically offer charming small towns with local restaurants, supply stores, and visitor centers where you can gather information about regional attractions and activities. Many campgrounds are situated near excellent fly-fishing rivers, mountain biking trails, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The emphasis on tent camping creates a community atmosphere where fellow campers often share trail recommendations, cooking tips, and stories of their outdoor adventures.

Idaho's public campgrounds represent an excellent choice for those who value simplicity, natural beauty, and authentic outdoor experiences over developed amenities.

Dear Campground Team, We had such a great time camping this weekend with my sister! One of the best parts of our trip was meeting the awesome camp hosts, Mark and Brandi. They are truly amazing at their jobs! Even when they had to deal with some not-so-nice campers, they stayed calm, kind, and super professional. It was really cool to see how patient and polite they were. They also helped us out... Dear Campground Team, We had such a great time camping this weekend with my sister! They also helped us out when we had a small problem and made sure everything was okay. They were always friendly and ready to lend a hand. The bathrooms were super clean, which made the trip even more comfortable! We also want to give a shoutout to the rest of the staff—they were warm and helpful, making the entire campground feel like a great place to be. We’re already excited to come back—we’ve even booked our spots for next month! Sincerely, The Happy Campers – The Larsen Family

I just had the most incredible camping experience at a beautiful, family-owned RV park nestled in the stunning Lava Hot Springs Valley. The grounds are lush and well-maintained, winding along a picturesque river that’s perfect for floating, swimming, or kayaking. The camp hosts were incredibly warm, helpful, and always ready to cater to every request, making us feel right at home. To my delight,... The grounds are lush and well-maintained, winding along a picturesque river that’s perfect for floating, swimming, or kayaking. The camp hosts were incredibly warm, helpful, and always ready to cater to every request, making us feel right at home. To my delight, a train passed several times throughout the day—such a nostalgic touch for me. The bathrooms were immaculate, the freshwater was clean and refreshing, and the peaceful, quiet setting was an ideal escape, especially during the busy Fourth of July holiday. Beyond the gorgeous campsites, the park offers rentals for just about anything you can imagine: side-by-sides, ATVs, float tubes, mopeds, dirt bikes, and even the cutest little paddle boats, all with safety equipment included. The river floating experience was absolutely magical—so serene and beautiful. Good news travels fast as I talked to families booking up to a year in advance for reunions and annual camping trips. It's clear why people return year after year. What really stood out was the convenience of being able to walk just about a mile into town to explore the natural hot springs, local eateries, or even go white-water rafting, if you're up for more adventure. This five-star RV park is the perfect spot for anyone looking for a true Idaho adventure. I’ve already booked my next trip for September to bring the whole family along!

Such a beautiful place. The train runs through every once in a while, but you get used to it. I quite enjoyed them myself. The bathrooms are basic, no flushing toilets or running water in them but they are kept very clean. If you don't bring your own tube's to go down the river, you can rent them here at the campground along with fire wood, and ice.

Very pretty campground on the river and less than a mile from downtown hot springs. Campground has it's own lazy river and rents tubes for less than downtown prices. Owner-partners are hands on and just good people. 👍🏼 Definitely recommend.
