About AL TAYLOR CABIN

Federal campground in Idaho.

Nestled in the heart of Idaho's stunning national forest landscape, Al Taylor Cabin offers RV campers an authentic escape into nature's embrace. This well-regarded camping destination provides an ideal base for exploring some of the Pacific Northwest's most breathtaking wilderness scenery, from towering evergreen forests to pristine alpine meadows.

The surrounding national forest terrain creates a genuine backcountry experience while remaining accessible for RV travelers. The area showcases the rugged beauty Idaho is known for, with dense coniferous forests providing natural shade and a sense of seclusion. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or a launching point for outdoor adventures, the location offers both tranquility and opportunity for exploration. The elevation and forest setting create pleasant temperatures even during summer months, making it comfortable for extended stays.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the surrounding landscape delivers exceptional opportunities. Hiking trails wind through the forest, ranging from gentle walks to more challenging backcountry routes. Fishing enthusiasts will find streams and water features throughout the area, while nature photographers discover countless compelling subjects among the flora and fauna. Mountain biking, wildlife viewing, and simple nature walks are all readily available. The relatively undeveloped character of the area means you'll experience genuine solitude and connection with the natural environment that many RV parks simply cannot offer.

This hybrid approach suits travelers who want to experience backcountry immersion without sacrificing all creature comforts.

The area serves outdoor lovers, families seeking screen-free bonding time, retirees exploring America's natural treasures, and anyone craving genuine wilderness escape. After graduation I went to work at the Idaho National Laboratory. Living in Pocatello I would hang out at the College Market, a coffee shop just off ISU campus. One day I saw the most beautiful woman in the world. Followed her to the porch and eventually got up the courage to speak to her. A year, 3 months later we were married, and spent our honeymoon at Al's cabin. See I married Glamae Taylor. Al was a wonderful person. He grew up in Camas Meadows (Kilgore), and during the summers from ISU, where he eventually became a professor and dean emeritus he built the cabin. He has a the local Girl Scouts camp named for him as a result of his time and service to the Girl and Boy scouts local organization. After his death in 2001 the cabin eventually went back to the Forest Service. I spent a lot of time there. It is truly a wonderment. If you ever get a chance to visit do so.

It's a remote cabin in the woods. Firewood is provided on site, but if you want to do a bonfie, bring your own wood so as not to deplete too much from the stockpile. The wood burning stove was sufficient to warm the cabin. Bring sheets, blankets, and a good pillow. Besides bedding, you really only need food, water, and matches. Great cabin, loved it, awesome location, cabin is gated off so you won't see many people, for it's age the cabin is in good shape. The wood stove works and is a great way to cook especially on a cooler morning. This cabin slept all 6 in my family comfortably, the wood swing outside was a nice touch, my kids used it constantly.

Great little cabin!! I would stay here again. Be sure to get there during the day time. Finding the place can be a little challenging. They road is marked nicely if you are coming from Kilgore, but if you come from the other way the signs are not not there and/or not very helpful. The cabin is in good shape and the place is very private. There is a swing for the kids to swing on and a nice bbq and... Great little cabin!! I would stay here again. The bathroom was the nicest smelling vault toilet I have every been in.

Well kept FS cabin with a nice developed outside area. Fire pit, grill and two picnic benches outside. The firewood is always stocked. Inside there are propane lights, a fire place and wood burning stove. Two bunk beds in one bedroom and two single beds in the second.
