About CUB RIVER GUARD STATION

Federal campground in Idaho.

Nestled in the heart of Idaho's stunning wilderness, Cub River Guard Station offers RV travelers an authentic escape into nature without sacrificing comfort and accessibility. This national forest campground serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring some of northern Idaho's most pristine landscapes and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The setting itself is remarkable. Surrounded by towering pine forests and the natural beauty of the Cub River drainage, this location provides the kind of serene atmosphere that RV campers seek when they want to disconnect from daily life. The cooler mountain temperatures make summer visits particularly refreshing, offering relief from the heat that plagues lower elevations. The forest canopy provides natural shade, which many RVers appreciate for their sites, and the river proximity creates a soothing backdrop with the gentle sounds of flowing water.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the opportunities are seemingly endless. Fishing is a primary draw, with the Cub River offering excellent opportunities for both fly and spin fishing throughout the season. Hiking trails radiate from the campground area, ranging from easy riverside walks to more challenging mountain trails that reward adventurers with panoramic vistas. Wildlife viewing is common in this area, and patient observers may spot elk, mule deer, and various bird species throughout the day. Mountain biking trails nearby cater to those seeking two-wheeled adventures through the forest.

The surrounding region connects to larger recreation areas and charming nearby towns where RV travelers can resupply, enjoy a meal, or explore local history and culture. This location works particularly well for visitors who want to experience Idaho's outdoor heritage while maintaining a home base that's easy to return to each evening.

Cub River Guard Station appeals to a broad spectrum of RV campers. Retirees seeking peaceful mountain retreats, families looking to introduce children to camping and fishing, and outdoor adventurers wanting access to multiple activities all find value here. The national forest setting attracts those who appreciate conservation areas and want to support responsible outdoor recreation. Whether you're planning a week-long mountain getaway or using it as a stopover on a larger Idaho touring adventure, this campground delivers the natural beauty and outdoor access that make RV camping memorable.

My service score is 1 star because there wasn't any, but I think that was the point for what we rented, so it was basically self service. The rooms are adorable but in summer, HOT. Location was nice! Very pretty. Close to town. I've never stayed in a lodge before and I loved it. So did my kids.

We enjoyed a fully stocked kitchen with 2 large fridges and 3 stoves. A large movie room next to a large 150 seat conference room where we served 3 days of meals. The lodge was clean and cozy. We enjoyed the big discount to Bear River Resort provided by the lodge. Oh, and there is a piano. Craig Riverton Ut.

Just had our big family vacation here and it was amazing! Denise was flexible (even when I messed up a date) and easy to reach. The camp host for the weekend (Shar, I think) was very kind and helpful. The trees provided plenty of shade and we had so much fun just 25 minutes away floating the Bear River with the Family Fun Floating company providing rentals and a shuttle for a great price. One of our favorite places we’ve had our reunion at❤️

Wonderful under-the-radar family-operated RV camping area. Well maintained. Large lawn area. Full hookups or tent camping available. You can hear the rushing river throughout the camp, and there's a great restaurant right next door.

The food is quite good and the staff that served us was kind and forthcoming with napkins, and water refills. The Oni n rings were breaded rather odd...not necessarily bad but certainly different from normal onion ring expectations. The scones were deliciously chewy and only lightly browned so it was almost doughy but right on the edge of doneness that I appreciate the balanced effort in. The scenery outside is breathtaking and the stream nearby offers pleasant white noise. The only gripe was the seating in direct sunlight. We were assured it would only be ten minutes before the sun would disappear. We used the sun to shade finger technique (look towards the sun and put the base of your hand against the item that will offer you shade such as a roof. Each finger between the shade source and the sun is 15-ish minutes) and it was more like half an hour until we were no longer sweaty and had become reasonably comfortable. If you go past 5 and you are seated near the rock wall along the river be sure to insist on a shade source or be prepared to bake in the sun (it was the 4th of July weekend when we went). Everything else was a rustic reprieve with well groomed cooking techniques that I appreciate and value. Thanks for reading.
