About Deadwood Campground

Campground in Idaho.

Nestled in the heart of Idaho's natural beauty, Deadwood Campground offers a peaceful escape into the wilderness for RV travelers seeking authentic forest camping. This intimate National Forest campground features just six sites, creating an exclusive and serene atmosphere where you can genuinely disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The small size means you'll experience far fewer crowds than larger commercial campgrounds, allowing you to enjoy the tranquility that makes National Forest camping so special.

The location provides an excellent base for exploring the diverse landscapes and outdoor recreation opportunities that central Idaho is famous for. Whether you're an avid hiker, angler, or simply someone who loves being surrounded by towering trees and fresh mountain air, this campground delivers an authentic camping experience. The nearby forests offer countless trails ranging from easy nature walks to more challenging backcountry adventures. If fishing is on your agenda, the region's pristine streams and lakes are home to trout and other native species that make for rewarding days on the water.

What makes this area particularly special is its relatively undiscovered character. You won't find the developed infrastructure of larger parks, but that's precisely the appeal for travelers who value genuine wilderness experiences. The campground sits in a setting that showcases Idaho's dramatic topography, with surrounding peaks and valleys creating stunning views throughout the seasons. Spring brings wildflower displays and rushing water from snowmelt, summer offers comfortable temperatures perfect for outdoor activities, fall delivers spectacular foliage, and even winter camping is possible for the adventurous.

This destination appeals especially to RV travelers who prefer a more rugged, back-to-basics approach to camping. If you're someone who enjoys solitude, wildlife watching, photography, or simply sitting by a campfire under stars unpolluted by light, Deadwood Campground is an ideal choice. The small number of sites means reservations are essential during peak seasons, so plan accordingly to secure your spot in this gem of a National Forest destination.

This year I was surprised by the devastation that the last year forest fires did to this magnificent place. But still it is one of my favorite places to go camping and play in the water surrounded by the magical beauty of its surroundings.

This is a nice little campground for quick getaways. I can have a campfire, the bathroom is always clean. You are right next to the river and a short drive to hot springs. I especially like going down to the river, sitting on a big rock there enjoying the river and the trees, and watching river raft groups and kayakers launching off down the river.

Pretty good campground. I think there are only about 6 sites, two of which are doubles. It's right next to the road, but traffic really tapers off to nothing around 9 PM. The outhouse rarely has TP because all of the river rafters that put in across the street use it before launching. The Deadwood River runs along the back of the camp and the Payette River is right across the street. Pretty... Pretty good campground. I think there are only about 6 sites, two of which are doubles. Great place for a 1-2 night camping spot. One advantage to this spot is that it is right by the highway but that also means that night and day you can hear and see the cars, but if something goes wrong its nice to know that grabbing a ride to town is easy. There is a spot down by the river that you can only barely see the road and the sound of the river blocks any other sound which is very nice.... Great place for a 1-2 night camping spot. Great small campground that fills up fast. The trail is easy-moderate in difficulty. The campground has vault toilets and spigot water available. Also, if you like watching rafting companies launch with wide-eyed customers, that's right across the road. :)
