This national forest campground provides direct access to some of the most pristine wilderness areas in central Idaho, making it an ideal base camp for outdoor enthusiasts seeking genuine connection with nature.

The setting here is genuinely special. Road from town all the way to the lookout. Road is steep in sections with rocky outcrops needing ground clearance and 4 wheel drive.

It is hard to explain how great it is to wake up eye level with that view! We spent 2 glorious nights in the tower and will be going again someday. If you go, read through the log book. Like past visitors, bring something to leave like new pots, a deck of cards or chairs. Watch your head on the trap door and latch it open or the wind will slam it at 3am. Bring some something to shim the windows... Bring some something to shim the windows because the wind rattles them. Google navigation took us up the wrong mountain so read the directions because its Montana and they shoot trespassers. Yes you need a high clearance vehicle and 4x4 is a good idea. Our 2000 Explorer made it.

A million dollar view for only $40/night. Split that four ways and it's only $10/person. Can't beat it.
