Great boondocking sites with porta pottys on site. Both paved and gravel roads, fishing. Posted a 14 day limit stay. Town about 10 minutes away.

Nice little lake, not very popular except for diehard fishermen. Didn't see anyone swimming in the lake except for a couple of dogs. The knats and mayflies are abundant and seemingly immune to insect spray. Mostly quiet except for the weekend, I can't wait to go back after the bugs are done for the year.

☆ 4 stars – Stunning, remote boondocking with wild surprises We stayed one night on the Lake Mauzy Docks peninsula in Kentucky on our way to Missouri — and wow, it was amazing. We hadan entire peninsula all to ourselves. The site is big‑rig friendly, with ample parking space right next to the water. We spent the afternoon fishing and kayaking, then lit a fire and just soaked in the solitude. ⚠️... ⚠️ Heads-up: the site was a bit messy when we arrived — we collected two grocery bags of trash before things looked presentable. But once cleaned up, the natural beauty really took your breath away. The rolling woodland, serene lake, and that iconic morning fog drifting over the water — absolutely magical . Wildlife encounter of a lifetime: We aren’t kidding when we say “Kentucky’s Bigfoot” – we spotted what looked like a mountain lion! It strolled down the road, then settled in the grass just watching us for nearly half an hour. Both terrifying and mesmerizing. Lake Mauzy is located within the Higginson‑Henry Wildlife Management Area — a peaceful 80–100 acre lake with superb bass, crappie, and channel catfish fishing . Motorboat horsepower is limited, so kayakers like us never worry about big wakes. The gravel roads and dispersed sites give the feeling of complete isolation — perfect for a one‑night escape . Pros: Big‑rig and kayak/fishing friendly Beautiful, fog‑blanketed mornings Peace and privacy Cons: Some cleanup needed on arrival Primitive setup (no water/electric) Would we return? Absolutely — just bring a trash bag. Lake Mauzy offers that rare blend of rugged wilderness and unexpected wildlife wonders. Highly recommended if you love off‑grid beauty with a side of adventure.

Free camping is a plus and the lake is beautiful. But be warned, there are some shady people and dealings that come here. I tried camping overnight. I tried camping overnight. Got woken up at 1AM by a loud truck coming down the gravel road to the camp site next to mine. They came up to people who were already settled, started immediately yelling and arguing loudly. Couldn't tell exactly what it was over, but it sounded like they were robbing the people there. Lots of screaming, cursing, slamming truck doors, I listened for a little while but they did not let up. Out of fear for my safety I discretely packed up my gear, quickly shoved it into my car and high-tailed it out of there. Be careful you who decide to camp here. It may be fine some nights, but do you want to take that risk? My advice: steer clear of this camp site.
