Nestled in the heart of Illinois, Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park offers RV enthusiasts a welcoming destination in a region rich with history and natural beauty. The area surrounding this park embodies the charm of southern Illinois, where the landscape transitions between rolling terrain and river valleys that have shaped the region for centuries.

The Kaskaskia area holds significant historical importance as one of Illinois' earliest settlements. Travelers who appreciate American history will find themselves in a region where French colonial heritage, Native American culture, and frontier settlement stories interweave. The nearby Kaskaskia River, which gives the town its name, has been central to the region's development and continues to define the character of the landscape. This river heritage creates a scenic backdrop that changes with the seasons, offering opportunities for those interested in observing the natural rhythms of Illinois' heartland.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the region provides access to various natural areas and parks. The countryside surrounding the park features the kind of peaceful, pastoral scenery that makes for relaxing drives and exploration. Birdwatchers and nature observers will appreciate the diverse wildlife that inhabits the Illinois landscape. The relatively quiet and unhurried pace of the area makes it ideal for RVers seeking respite from busier tourist destinations.

The broader southern Illinois region offers a mix of attractions for different interests. History buffs can explore local museums and heritage sites that document the area's past. Visitors interested in local culture will find authentic small-town experiences, local dining, and community events that reflect genuine Illinois hospitality.

This location works well for travelers using the park as a base for exploring the wider region, including day trips to other parts of southern Illinois. The park serves as a convenient stopping point for those traveling through Illinois or those specifically interested in experiencing the quieter, historic side of the state. Whether you're a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful place to park your RV, the Kaskaskia area provides a distinctly Illinois experience away from major metropolitan areas.

Once I pulled into the park, it was hard to figure out where to go to check in? There’s a big supply store and I finally went in there and that is where I was supposed to check in, but there was no signs telling me that a sign saying RV check-in would be helpful. Small, perhaps 12 site RV park in front of a mobile home park. It does have a liquor store a laundromat, a car wash and a pet wash right... Small, perhaps 12 site RV park in front of a mobile home park. It does have a liquor store a laundromat, a car wash and a pet wash right in front of me here so that is really nice. It also has a full hardware store and that is where you check in. So far the Wi-Fi has been fabulous no problems at all with their Internet

I am a very skeptical person. We needed a stop over for a long distance trip and we found Kaskaskia online. Easy in, easy out. Full hook ups. The dragon is fun. We were even greeted by the northern lights which I hadn't seen since moving from Alaska some years ago. I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through.

This is a fantastic location to catch a glimpse of the Kaskaskia Dragon. While it isn't a large RV park with numerous amenities, it’s conveniently situated right by the dragon. When we visited, it was quite busy, but it felt like a secure place to rest, whether you’re working or just passing through.

This is not a campground as you might imagine. There are 12 pull through full hookup sites across the road from a well stocked hardware store (under the water tower) and that's where you check in at the hardware store cash register. Sites are gravel and fairly level. There are no restrooms, showers, trash cans or laundromat, but directly across the road you'll find a convenience/ liquor store, a laundromat, car wash, and a pet wash. Everything you need for an overnight rest. When you are done checking in at the hardware store the clerk will give you a couple of tokens to light up the fire breathing dragon next to the camp sites. Light him up when it's dark for the best pictures. Each token gets you 10 seconds of flame!

Check in is at the hardware store across the street. Super easy with the helpful ladies behind the counter. We called 30 minutes prior and they had a spot available for us. Clean laundromat across the street with wash machines ranging from $2.25 - $4.50 for the large front load. Dryers are .25 for 5-6 minutes. Fun dragon and knight at entrance of the small park, tokens available when you check... Check in is at the hardware store across the street. Super easy with the helpful ladies behind the counter. Restaurants close by for dining. Walmart for shopping. Pilot gas station for fueling at the exit. Nice stay for the evening. We did not use the wifi, but our phones worked fine.
