Lake MacBride SP was something of a surprise to me. I don't picture beaches and water sports in central Iowa and yet here they were. Quite good fishing too, I might add. Not too surprisingly, I suspect, summer is the peak season here. But a winter visit was unexpectedly beautiful and not nearly as cold as you might expect. And there were certainly no crowds. You might be pleasantly surprised by the water festivities of Iowa.

Beautiful and well kept park. Nice and level pads. The lake is gorgeous. Maybe 20 boats out fishing this morning. One fellow caught a 40 inch long muskellunge. Lots of bass being caught.

There is a lovely hike one rocky loose grave and another mostly welk groomed grass to Lake area and dam which is beautiful. Dogs on leash and of corse pick up after your pets The sites offer electricity only as well as electricity, sewer and water based on season for water Reservations ahead of time of corse but beware, sites 1-6 Are Not Rig Friendly Due to narrow, trees, turn ability. Definitely one of the most accessible and well maintained lakeside walking trails I've had the privilege of exploring. Plenty of splendid scenes to see, with places to stroll or lightly hike, and enough shade or sun for any casual hiking preference. The water spreads restful without any real waves or current, so it made kayaking an altogether leisurely experience. Nothing too exciting, since you have to stop at the falls, but still worth it if you're seeking out a gentler occasion. The falls themselves are gentler still, making it a fairly tame place to meander and enjoy the sounds of water. Thank you Iowa, I had a time and a half.
