About VENANGO PARK

Federal campground in Kansas.

Venango Park offers a peaceful Kansas camping experience that captures the authentic charm of the Great Plains. Located in a region where wide-open spaces and genuine small-town hospitality define the landscape, this public campground welcomes RV travelers seeking a quieter alternative to crowded commercial parks.

The surrounding area represents quintessential Kansas countryside, with gently rolling terrain and big skies that seem to stretch endlessly in every direction. The park itself provides a comfortable base for exploring what makes this region special. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by the agricultural heritage that forms the backbone of Kansas culture, with opportunities to witness working farms and understand the land's significance to the communities that call it home.

For those interested in outdoor recreation, the campground's location offers access to local trails and natural areas where you can experience the region's native grasslands and wildlife. Birdwatchers particularly appreciate the variety of species found throughout Kansas, especially during migration seasons. The area's natural quietness makes it ideal for stargazing, and the minimal light pollution reveals night skies that many urban and suburban campers rarely experience.

Nearby attractions include charming small towns where local diners serve authentic Midwestern fare and antique shops offer glimpses into frontier history. The region's museums and historical sites tell compelling stories of pioneer settlement, Native American heritage, and agricultural development. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the accessibility of fishing opportunities and scenic drives through the Kansas landscape.

Venango Park appeals to a wide range of travelers. Retirees enjoy the relaxed pace and friendly community atmosphere, while families appreciate the safe, family-friendly environment and opportunities for kids to appreciate nature away from screens. Solo travelers find it a welcoming destination for self-reflection and outdoor exploration. Those seeking to escape the hustle of tourist destinations will discover exactly what they're looking for here.

This is a beautiful Corp of Engineers campground with several loops of campsites of various sizes, clean bathhouses with hot showers, trails, and amazing lake views. The host are very nice and welcoming. Some sites have electric and some others include a water connection. Sanitary dumps as well. There are many different campgrounds on lake Kanopolis, but this is the best choice. (Some reviews here... This is a really wonderful campground. Clean, new shower houses, well maintained green spaces, lots of space between most campsites. Beautiful scenery and the hiking trails are great, too. Verizon signal good, and 17 over the air TV stations. Not all sites have utilities but there are many 50 amp W/E sites.

The park rangers were not helpful, nosey and buggy. I've been to a lot of lakes and have never experienced such ignorance anywhere else. The wildlife, rocks, crystals, fossils and water is by far better here than anywhere else. The best time ever just exploring. If you can get passes the rump rangers you will be back time and time again.

This beach is alright but it has no readily accessible restrooms or trees to provide shade, nor tables to set up at. If you want to use the restroom, or play at the playground you have to hike up a steep sand slope first…..(and pack all your stuff up if you don’t have someone to stay with it). Additionally, dogs are not allowed.
