It was just an overnight stay on our way to Iowa. That overnight stay turned into a three day adventure for our cat. To begin, Ron called us prior to our arrival to give us check in information as we were arriving after hours. We were impressed by the size of the place, the size of the spots, the ease of maneuvering the rig and trailer hauling our Tacoma around the grounds, how appropriately lighted the place was. Ron also left us a map with drawn out route to get us to our spot which was 90’ long. The following morning I got to explore with the kids and dogs. There’s a nice play area for the kids, a pool for the warmer months, and the fenced in dog park is as big as some city parks. It’s huge. I use their showers which were roomy. The bathroom and showers were super clean. As I was walking out I ran into Ron. We conversed for a while. He a super nice guy. Good family man. Later that morning my family and I loaded up, went to the Brown vs Board of Education National Historic Park and took off to Davenport, Iowa where we arrived around 1:30-2:00 am, and at which time we realized we were missing one of our two cats. We were so focused on the kids, dogs, time, and drive that we didn’t make sure the cats were with us. The cats like to hide for hours and hours when we drive. Neither one came out after we’d arrived. Fortunately my wife put air tags on the animals so we checked their locations. The dogs were in the Airbnb, the 3 y/o cat was with us, the 17 y/o cat’s last location was Deer Creek RV Park. I called the number Ron had called from before expecting a voicemail. Ron answered the phone at 2:15 am on a Saturday morning. He listened to our panicking (in addition to being missing it was 24°outside and she’s a San Diego cat lol.) and said he’d call us back later in the morning when he arrived to search for her. I woke 4 and a half hours later checking the phone for the cat’s tag. She moved around the park several times. I waited until the parks office hours to call but Ron called my wife’s phone first. Ron and his son went to the rv park in the dark to search for our little Zoe. My wife had reported her tag as missing and shared it, so they were using their phones to locate her. They tracked her location to underneath an rv with skirting and possibly a heater underneath to prevent pipes from freezing. It was too early to knock on the rv to ask for permission to look underneath. A little later while attending to another matter Ron looked out the office window and saw a cat sitting in the middle of the spot we’d vacated the day before. Ron brought Zoe into the office. He and his son got her some food, set up a makeshift litter box and a couple of chairs for her to nestle into in a climate controlled garage to keep Zoe comfortable and healthy. Thank god for Ron and his son and that he allowed Zoe to stay an extra night because a snow storm hit, she was safe and we didn’t want to drive in unsafe conditions. Meantime a friend of a friend arranged to drive from Kansas City, MO to Topeka to pick Zoe up on Sunday morning and drive up to Bethany, MO to meet us with Zoe. Ron, his son, and the friend from Kansas City are all friends in deed. We thank them for their selflessness.

Beautiful campground ❤️ concrete roads & very level concrete pads. And a covered picnic table with a shade. One of the nicest RV parks. AT&T and T-Mobile works great here. We are only here for 1 night. Ron in the office was very nice and helpful.

My husband called in the morning and made a reservation for a site, he was told that there was one site available. husband gave all our information including his credit card information. We thought we were good to go. We drive the 302 miles to the campground and when my husband gets there, the person who was checking him in says we don’t have your reservation and we have no more sites. What? The employee remembers talking with my husband, but didn’t complete the reservation in their computer. WTH? Hubby is ready to blow a gasket, informs the guy that he has a wife who loves to review places on line. And the guy tells my husband to not be belligerent and he’ll figure out something. Wait, you just said there are no sites available. Now, magically, there is a site? True, when my hubby didn’t receive a confirmation email or text, he should have taken a minute to call the campground again. Yes, that’s on him. But we have been traveling from Michigan to Arizona and now halfway home and haven’t had a problem until now. My personal opinion is that the employee took one look at my hippy looking husband and decided he didn’t want us camping there. It wasn’t because our camper is old, there were older ones (see pictures), it was just my husband. Here’s the campground review: this is an RV park, built for big rigs. Each site has a covered patio area, a picnic table and full hook ups. There is adequate space between the sites, room for the largest rigs and tow vehicles. There is one washroom, with laundry and shower (kind of weird with curtains and no area to lay a bag or clothes) facilities and a storm cellar. The roads are wide allowing for turns without running over the grass. This campground would be rated a high 4 or a 5 if not for the employee at the beginning of this story.

Nice spacious dog park, decent playground, and a nice pool, though it was obviously closed at the time of the year when we visited. Sites are large and spacious, people are friendly, packages are allowed, and shower and laundry building is nice as well. Some ideas for improvement: turns onto interior roads are a bit tight, we had to remove from stakes and go a bit into the grass to make a turn with our large rig; water would be nice in the dog park for the dogs, and an online reservation system. Also, don't miss the BBQ from Lonnie's nearby restaurant- just go early, they sell out fast! Update: We stayed here again in June of 2023 on our way back out west. This was supposed to be a one night overnight stop, but my wife had to go to the ER with acute pancreatitis, and ended up being hospitalized for a week. The staff at Deer Creek Valley RV Park were extremely accommodating at a time when we were under considerable stress. They moved some things around to ensure that we could not only extend our stay for the time she was in the hospital, but they made it so we didn't have to change campsites and even allowed us time after her surgery for recovery. Extremely grateful to the staff for their flexibility!
