My family and I have stopped at Mammoth Cave National Park on two separate occasions. The first time was August 2024. The weather was quite warm and the cave felt so good to cool off in. The weather was quite warm and the cave felt so good to cool off in. We hiked one of the trails after the self guided cave tour, working up a sweat, and standing in front of the entrance was like standing in front of an A/c vent. The self-guided tour was ok, if you really just want to say you e been in Mammoth Cave, but I highly recommend doing a guided tour! The park has several options for guided tours and they vary in length. Our second stop at the park was January 2026, and it was a lot less crowded. We decided to splurge and do the four hour Grand Avenue tour. The rangers are very up front in warning about the length and distance of the tour, and the fact that there aren’t any shortcuts once you start. They really questioned whether we should do it as we had our kids with us, and I suppose some kids could make the tour very unenjoyable for other guests. We have been in a good number of caves prior, so we decided to risk it. Even though it took a lot of bribes to stop the whining, and a good bit of carrying my five year old, we are glad we did it. Just be sure to think hard about how many stairs you will have to climb, there are a lot! As well, four hours really is a long time under the ground, but if you truly want a long, detailed tour, it is great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a great storyteller. We had a wonderful time overall!

Stunning and other worldly. We went on the domes and drips stones tour and it was not strenuous at all. Our 7 and 11 year olds were able to complete all the stairs without issue. The park ranger that guided the tour was excellent and very knowledgeable.

To us, Mammoth Cave’s was a hidden secret! Absolutely beautiful and highly recommend making the trip if you’re near Nashville. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about the history of the discovery of the caves. I’m 66 and my wife is 64 and we had no troubles with any of the terrain there but then we did stay away from the tours with 100’s of steps. We will definitely stop there again someday i... We had a ton of fun with the kids here. There's a lot to do and a lot of wildlife. The hike was excellent with great views. It was a weekend, midday, quiet, relaxing and fantastic memories.
