About SABINE (Toledo Bend Reservoir Area): 409-625-1940

Located in the pineywoods of east Texas, the 160,656-acre Sabine National Forest is the easternmost of the four national forests in Texas and forms part of the boundary between Texas and Louisiana. The forest is situated on the western slopes of the Sabine River watershed within Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Jasper, and Newton counties.

Located in the heart of Louisiana's Toledo Bend Reservoir region, Sabine offers RV campers an exceptional gateway to one of the South's most scenic outdoor destinations. This public campground provides an ideal base for exploring the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that make this area a beloved destination for families, anglers, and nature enthusiasts alike.

Toledo Bend Reservoir itself is a magnificent 185,000-acre lake that straddles the Louisiana-Texas border, creating endless possibilities for water-based adventures. The reservoir is renowned for its excellent fishing, with largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie drawing anglers from across the region. Whether you're an experienced fisherman or just looking to cast a line from shore, the clear waters and abundant fish populations make for memorable outings. Beyond fishing, the lake welcomes boaters, swimmers, and water sports enthusiasts who appreciate its pristine waters and scenic shorelines dotted with cypress trees and natural wildlife habitats.

The Sabine area itself is steeped in regional character and history. The surrounding landscape features dense pine forests interspersed with hardwoods, creating a quintessentially Southern atmosphere that feels both peaceful and welcoming. This is the kind of place where mornings are greeted by birdsong and gentle water laps against the shore, and evenings offer stunning sunsets reflected across the reservoir's surface.

For those seeking outdoor activities beyond water recreation, the region offers hiking trails, wildlife viewing opportunities, and peaceful nature walks. The area is home to diverse bird species, making it a wonderful destination for birdwatchers. Photography enthusiasts will find no shortage of scenic vistas and wildlife moments to capture.

The Toledo Bend Reservoir area is relatively quiet and undeveloped compared to many popular vacation destinations, which makes it perfect for RV travelers seeking a genuine escape from crowds and urban hustle. It's an excellent choice for retirees, families planning extended stays, fishing enthusiasts, and anyone who values authentic Southern hospitality and natural beauty. With its public campground amenities and proximity to the lake, Sabine provides a comfortable, affordable base for experiencing Louisiana's outdoor treasures.

Had an amazing time. We visited for Memorial day. My parents had a camper and we got a day pass. Beautiful family friendly place. Not expensive and worth the 2.00 per person fee go enter. We even got to see a bald eagle during our boat ride. It topped off a great day.

My favorite watering hole. This is my happy place. Especially in the evening when it's quiet and the suns about to go down. Great sandy beach and large swimming area. Camping is good here also.
