About Blackwoods Campground

Campground in Maine.

Blackwoods Campground offers a quintessential Maine camping experience nestled in the heart of Acadia National Park territory. Located on Mount Desert Island, this public campground serves as an ideal basecamp for exploring one of America's most treasured natural destinations. With its forested setting and proximity to Acadia's stunning landscapes, Blackwoods provides the perfect blend of accessibility and natural beauty that keeps visitors returning year after year.

The campground's location is arguably its greatest asset. Situated just minutes from the park entrance, you'll have easy access to Mount Desert Island's incredible outdoor recreation opportunities. Acadia National Park surrounds the area with its dramatic coastal cliffs, pristine lakes, and over 120 miles of hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. Whether you're interested in a challenging summit hike up Cadillac Mountain or a leisurely walk along a scenic lakeside path, the park's diverse terrain accommodates every preference. The famous Park Loop Road winds through Acadia, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic coastline, and it's easily accessible from your campground base.

Beyond the national park, the broader Mount Desert Island region offers charming coastal villages, fresh seafood restaurants, and unique shopping opportunities. Bar Harbor, the island's main town, sits just a short drive away with its vibrant downtown atmosphere, art galleries, and working waterfront character. Families appreciate the area's numerous attractions including carriage roads perfect for biking, tide pools to explore during low tide, and ranger-led programs that educate visitors about the region's natural and cultural history.

The campground's forest setting provides a peaceful retreat after days of exploration. Tall pine and spruce trees create a serene atmosphere while offering natural privacy between sites. The area's natural vegetation and wildlife make it a wonderful spot for nature enthusiasts who enjoy observing local flora and fauna. Early mornings bring the sounds of birds and forest life, enhancing the authentic camping experience many seek when visiting Maine.

Blackwoods welcomes a diverse range of visitors. Families with children love the proximity to kid-friendly hiking trails and educational opportunities within Acadia. The had the music going the whole time they cleaned the bathroom, so 10+ minutes.

We camp here every year and love it! We love the peace & nurture surrounds - easy access to trails and coast for sunsets. Super clean—bathrooms, campsites, trash areas. Dog friendly! No showers, but there is one close by!

Stayed here multiple times, first time back to Acadia in years, and this time with the kids in tow. They did great and we had a great time. I always wish I could stay here longer but normal life awaits. Site is easy access to two island hopper lines. My only comment is I wish there was a showering place (not pay) on site. Highly recommend for seeing the park at all times of the day.

Loved our 5 days at Blackwoods Campground. Clean, quiet and just perfect. Well maybe showers would have made it really perfect😊. Easy access to ocean sunrise, hiking trails, park loop and carriage trails. We biked everywhere! Staff was lovely as well. Thank you!
