We didn't stay, but we checked it out for future use. This is a buried gem for boondockers who aren't afraid of some rough access roads. There is a beautiful view of Moosehead Lake. The camp hosts seemed very friendly and despite there being several insectivore birds present the gnats (aka black flies) were in full bloom this first week of June. Cowan Cove is a great spot to unplug with a 36' camper trailer or even a tent. Sites are clean, open, and grassy with fire rings and by the water. Saw the most beautiful moonrise over the water last weekend!

I think it is 16 miles of the pathed road. So I wouldn't be taking a big rig RV. Expect lots of bugs. We had a screen house. But all so worth the beauty peace and tranquility.

Absolutely wonderful primitive camp site. My favorite place in the WORLD to be. Be prepared for bugs and a long drive though!

If you want bliss in the middle of nowhere, This is the place. A small piece of heaven on earth. Great place to rest and leave behind worries for a while. No running water. There is a shared outhouse. It is cleaned and maintained. We use the lake to bath. An experience I hope to continue to have annually. If your lucky you will be able to see mousse, bear and other wildlife in that area. Just enjo... If you want bliss in the middle of nowhere, This is the place. A small piece of heaven on earth.
