About Great Bear Camping

Campground in Maine.

Great Bear Camping offers a genuine escape into the natural beauty of Maine's rugged landscape. Located on Route 105 in Bear Island, this public campground serves as an ideal basecamp for travelers seeking authentic outdoor experiences in one of New England's most scenic regions. The campground sits in an area rich with Maine's characteristic charm, where dense forests meet pristine waterways and the pace of life slows to match the rhythm of nature.

The Bear Island location provides visitors with excellent access to some of Maine's most compelling outdoor attractions. The region is known for its exceptional fishing opportunities, with both freshwater and saltwater options depending on where you venture. Kayakers and boaters will find plenty of waterways to explore, while hikers have numerous trails winding through the surrounding forests and along scenic overlooks. The proximity to Acadia National Park area makes this campground particularly attractive for those wanting to explore Maine's most iconic natural destination.

For those interested in Maine's maritime heritage and small-town character, the local area doesn't disappoint. The region is dotted with charming coastal villages, lobster shacks serving authentic Maine cuisine, and working waterfronts that showcase the state's fishing industry heritage. Bears Den Park is a lovely, well maintained, seasonal campground full of small "park model" type mobile homes in a very quiet wooded area of Wells, ME. The streets are gravel and there are rules about peace and quiet. There is a community pool and coin operated laundry facility. The residents plan get - togethers throughout the summer. The park is open May 15 thru October 15th. (Weather willing)....
