About Medawisla Lodge and Cabins

Campground in Maine.

Nestled along the pristine shores of Moosehead Lake in Maine's rugged wilderness, Medawisla Lodge and Cabins offers an authentic escape into one of New England's most spectacular natural settings. This public campground serves as the perfect base for exploring the region's unparalleled outdoor recreation opportunities, from world-class fishing to scenic hiking trails that wind through dense forests and alongside sparkling waterways.

Moosehead Lake itself is a highlight of any visit to this area. As Maine's largest lake, it stretches across more than 40 square miles of pristine waters, making it a haven for anglers pursuing brook trout, lake trout, and landlocked salmon. The lake's clear waters and peaceful coves provide excellent opportunities for kayaking and canoeing, allowing visitors to explore hidden inlets and observe the region's abundant wildlife. Early morning paddling sessions often reward adventurers with sightings of moose, deer, and a variety of waterfowl.

The surrounding landscape offers endless exploration possibilities. The region is crisscrossed with hiking trails ranging from easy lakeside walks to more challenging mountain climbs that deliver panoramic views of the lake and distant peaks. During fall, the area transforms into a canvas of brilliant reds, oranges, and golds, attracting leaf-peepers from across the country. Winter brings a different kind of magic, with opportunities for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing on the frozen lake.

The charming town of Greenville, just a short drive away, provides convenient access to supplies, dining, and local attractions. This quaint village has maintained much of its historic character while offering modern amenities for travelers. The nearby Moosehead Lake Region is steeped in logging history and natural heritage, adding cultural depth to your outdoor adventure.

Medawisla Lodge and Cabins welcomes families seeking quality time in nature, outdoor enthusiasts looking for premier fishing and water sports, couples seeking a romantic wilderness retreat, and anyone wanting to disconnect from daily life and reconnect with the great outdoors. The location offers that rare combination of accessibility and genuine wilderness experience that defines Maine's appeal.

This lodge is awesome, the AMC lodge here is amazing, warm, inviting and comfortable. The staff are all so nice and helpful, the food was tasty and comforting, and the cabin was super warm with the wood stove. The XC skiing trails were well groomed and just beautiful.
