About Mount Desert Campground

Campground in Maine.

Mount Desert Campground offers RV travelers an exceptional gateway to one of New England's most treasured natural destinations. Located in Maine's Mount Desert Island area, this public campground provides convenient access to some of the region's most spectacular scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring Acadia National Park, one of the most visited national parks in the United States, where dramatic coastal cliffs, pristine lakes, and mountain vistas await around every corner.

The Mount Desert Island region is renowned for its rugged Atlantic coastline, where rocky shores meet crashing waves and charming coastal villages dot the landscape. Visitors staying at Mount Desert Campground can experience the quintessential Maine coastal experience, from sunrise views over the ocean to peaceful afternoons exploring quiet forests and hiking trails. The area's natural beauty has attracted artists, nature enthusiasts, and families for generations, and that welcoming spirit continues today.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the opportunities are nearly endless. Acadia National Park features over one hundred fifty miles of hiking trails ranging from easy coastal walks to challenging mountain summits. The famous Park Loop Road offers stunning scenic drives with numerous pullouts and viewpoints. Jordan Pond, Echo Lake, and Eagle Lake provide opportunities for swimming, boating, and fishing. Kayakers and paddlers particularly love exploring the park's waterways, where you might spot bald eagles, osprey, and other wildlife.

Beyond the national park, the surrounding communities offer authentic Maine charm. Bar Harbor, the gateway town to Acadia, features excellent restaurants, galleries, shops, and the famous Jordan Pond House for casual dining with spectacular mountain backdrops. Smaller villages like Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor provide quieter alternatives with their own character and local flavor. Fresh lobster, local craft brews, and farm-to-table dining experiences are abundant throughout the island.

Mount Desert Campground welcomes families, couples, and solo travelers who want to experience Maine's natural wonders without sacrificing comfort. Whether you're planning a week-long adventure or a weekend getaway, this location provides the perfect home base for creating unforgettable memories in one of America's most beautiful regions.

By far, the best campground we’ve ever stayed at! We’ve stayed at a lot of campgrounds, but this one takes the win. Beautiful scenery, well thought out layout of the sites, the bath houses were very clean and nice, the Gathering Place offers daily coffee and pastries, the hosts were incredibly kind and helpful, and it’s a great location to easily get into Acadia or Bar Harbor. Great campsites with good amenities. Bathrooms are clean and large, and they have many places around the lot so you're always close to one. Easy walk down to the water. Camp sites are quite close but as to be expected. To rent kayaks/paddleboards are overpriced but it's a high tourist area

This campground is amazing!! The host was extremely friendly and explained how to get around Acadia National Forest. The spots she suggested were beautiful!! The bathroom and showers were clean and we loved how the campsites were tucked into the trees and the road carved a way through the trees!! Very scenic!!

Our campsite was beautiful and we loved the views and location, however we were disappointed that there was no designated area to wash dishes. We were also a little disappointed with the shower situation- I didn't expect to pay for showers with the cost we already paid for the campsite. The rustic shower is probably ok on a hot summer day but on a chilly September morning, having the wind come thr... What a beautiful place to stay! Sites are nicely sized, and clean. Plus having a platform to set our tent on was a nice bonus. We stayed at a waterfront site, and the view was incredible. Clean bathrooms, and friendly staff. We will definitely be back!
