It’s a beautiful place—I’m just not friendly with the skunks yet! We had a lot of fun and will definitely come back again next year

I have been coming up here on and off since the 90’s (yes the 19-90’s) and one thing I love, is over the years there has been little change! It is a quiet, peaceful place to camp and spend time away from craziness. The facilities are always clean, there’s no trash piling up around the trash cans. The campsites and beaches are well maintained. The staff are Friendly and polite. The trails are kept... No loud music at night (Outside radios are not allowed), No people “ Carrying on” all hours of the night (They have a designated quiet hour, which everyone seems to adhere to), And as much as I love dogs and critters, there are no pets allowed, So no barking dogs in the middle of the night at the numerous four -legged visitors that you will have especially if you leave food out. They have a great camp store with just about anything you would need including lobsters, clams, and oysters… they’ll even cook them for you… But you do have to shuck your own oysters. Snagging a reservation can be a bit frustrating as you have to call, and the lines always seem to be busy… Keep being persistent you’ll get through. I’ve come to think it’s just part of the experience. The views, the sunsets, The clear starry nights not blocked out by light pollution is definitely worth the price of admission. Planning a trip just to get away from everything? I couldn’t think of a better place to go.

Majestic sunsets, beautiful beaches, and a family oriented atmosphere make this campground a little slice of paradise. The team at Hermit Island works hard to maintain a friendly, inviting, and wholesome camping experience. Highly recommend!!!

Absolutely beautiful campground! Quiet and relaxing, with lots of friendly campers. We had an oceanfront site, and the sunsets felt like something out of a movie. Definitely be prepared to deal with some mosquitoes and nosey critters, but as long as you bring bug spray, and hide your food really good, you should be ok. The stunning views, and falling asleep to the sound of waves, was so peaceful.... Absolutely beautiful campground! Quiet and relaxing, with lots of friendly campers. We had a wonderful time camping here. It's absolutely gorgeous, and our site was very private. It was so fun biking around the island, and the bathrooms & showers were great. The only thing that I didn't like was the excessive mosquitos, but that has nothing to do with the campground. We went in July and stayed on the Branch. Just pack a lot of bug spray and a screen tent.
