Bear Island is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.
Maine weather can change quickly. Pack layers and check the forecast for Bear Island.

We stayed here overnight in a tent, and the spot was absolutely amazing — private, tucked away on a hill surrounded by trees. The nature is stunning, and the lake is perfect for a refreshing swim on a paddleboard. The site has all the conveniences you need, including showers, toilets, and WiFi. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy peaceful nature with great facilities!

Quiet little park, stayed for 2 weeks. Nice beach/dock area we had to ourselves many evenings. Great entertainment on the weekend, lots of ppl up dancing. Had a great time!

The community is nice there and the town. Few spots to eat or grab stuff if needed but this campground is great for relaxing in. We tented for a night, everyone is friendly there. They had a DJ that night and got invited by the seasonal crew to come down, it was fun. Went for a swim, caught some stars. Clean bathrooms (gf approved 👍)

First off, I need to preface this review with a few facts: we were camping in the middle of the week and it was before the Atlantic Bubble was opened. Definitely not peak busy camping season. Definitely not peak busy camping season. Now that's out of the way, we really enjoyed our stay. The campground (and town) are very quiet. Perfect place to relax and not be running around doing all the touristy stuff. The seasonal campers also pooled some $$ and bought some fireworks for Canada Day. It was great. Our kids loved it. The only downside to the Nackawic area is the mill effluent. It stinks. But doesn't always blow toward town or the campground. Of the three nights we stayed, we only smelled the mill on the last night after a brief thunderstorm. We will definitely be camping there again. Lastly, because of the weird timing of our visit, I felt that I couldn't fully review this campground because we didn't get to see it at peak season. Therefore I can only give it 3 stars. I will update this review after we camp there again.
