About Hilton Area Family Camping

Campground in Maryland.

Nestled in the heart of Maryland, Hilton Area Family Camping offers a quintessential small-town camping experience that feels like a well-kept secret among RV enthusiasts. With just twelve sites, this public campground provides the kind of intimate atmosphere where you can actually get to know your neighbors and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of a true camping community rather than the hustle and bustle of larger parks.

The Hilton area itself represents classic Maryland charm, with rolling countryside, historic communities, and easy access to some of the region's most appealing destinations. Whether you're a history buff, outdoor adventurer, or simply seeking a relaxing retreat, this location puts you within reasonable driving distance of significant attractions and natural areas that define the Mid-Atlantic experience.

What makes camping here special is the focus on family-friendly recreation and genuine hospitality. The smaller site count means more space, less crowding, and a more relaxed pace compared to mega-campgrounds. This is ideal for families with children who want to let their kids explore safely, or for couples looking for a quieter escape where they can actually hear nature rather than RVs humming all night.

The Maryland countryside surrounding the campground offers opportunities for scenic drives through agricultural lands, visits to charming small towns with local restaurants and antique shops, and outdoor activities like hiking and fishing. The region's rich history means you're never far from colonial-era sites, historic battlefields, and museums that tell the stories of America's past.

Visitors consistently rate this campground at an impressive 4.9 out of 5 stars, reflecting the quality of the experience and the welcoming nature of the management and community. For RVers who appreciate authenticity over amenities, who value a clean and well-maintained space with genuine personal service, and who want to experience Maryland's heartland, Hilton Area Family Camping delivers exactly what they're seeking. It's the kind of place where you might just find yourself extending your stay and planning your return visit before you've even packed up.

The bathrooms were located in the center and a short walk from anywhere in the campground. The facilities were very clean with plenty of stalls and hot showers. You can technically hike all the trials in the park from this campsite, but the trails on the southern end of the park take over and hour to hike to. It all depends on your hiking ability. The trails around the campground were lovely.

Great camping experience. The sights are well maintained and it is very secluded. The park staff is super friendly very helpful. Each sight has a table, fire pit and a small cook work area. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. We had a blast.

This campground is exceptional. The staff is generous. It is hard to imagine you are minutes from the hussle and bussle of city life. The bathroom is so clean - and the (locked at night) front gate gives an extra feel of security,

It's kind of convoluted to get registered, which cost everyone involved some time and some patience to get sorted initially. This is mainly because their website is set up with more restrictions than simple accommodations. This is mainly because their website is set up with more restrictions than simple accommodations. Some of which overlap and conflict with each other in a way that makes booking online somewhat harder than it should be or that may be practical. That is to say you can't book 24hrs out or on the same day, but they also require a two-day minimum stay. For me this meant that while I was planning on arriving on Friday for a two-day stay, I could not get past the two hurtles required to pre-book on Thursday and instead had to wait until I arrived on Friday before I could get registered or pick my spot. Outside of that bit of logistics chess, it is a nice campsite however, run in person by very nice people in a great setting, also surprisingly close to the city of Baltimore and all that has to offer.

Absolutely lovely place to camp in the middle of dense suburbia! Quiet, peaceful, and filled with wonderful hiking trails, & places to swim.
