Elk Neck State Park offers RV campers a remarkable escape into Maryland's natural beauty, where the Elk River meets the Chesapeake Bay region. Located in North East, Maryland, this expansive 270-site park provides the perfect basecamp for exploring one of the Mid-Atlantic's most scenic waterfront areas. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or an adventure-filled getaway, Elk Neck delivers an authentic outdoor experience just minutes from charming historic towns and major metropolitan areas.

The park's location is truly special. Situated where water and woodlands converge, Elk Neck State Park puts you at the heart of the Upper Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. The setting feels wonderfully remote, yet you're conveniently positioned for day trips to nearby attractions and dining. The landscape itself tells a story of Maryland's rich maritime heritage, with views that change beautifully across the seasons.

For water enthusiasts, the park's boat ramp provides direct access to the Elk River, making it ideal for fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the water during warmer months. Anglers particularly appreciate this destination, as the river and bay waters offer excellent opportunities for striped bass, catfish, and other local species. Even if you're not an experienced angler, the peaceful waterfront setting invites quiet mornings with a cup of coffee and binoculars in hand, watching for bald eagles and osprey.

Your RV will be well-accommodated with full hookups available, ensuring comfortable stays regardless of season. The park maintains shower facilities, modern restrooms, and a convenient dump station, so your rig stays in top condition. Picnic tables and fire rings scattered throughout the property encourage gathering with fellow campers and enjoying meals outdoors, while the on-site camp store handles those items you might have forgotten.

The surrounding area offers surprising variety for a state park setting. Historic North East is within easy reach, featuring local restaurants and shops that reflect the region's colonial past. For history buffs, the proximity to Revolutionary War sites and colonial-era landmarks adds cultural depth to your camping trip. Families appreciate the park's picnic facilities and the opportunities for kids to explore nature safely.

Year-round accessibility makes Elk Neck appealing in every season. Spring brings wildflowers and migrating birds, summer offers perfect boating weather, fall delivers stunning foliage reflected in the water, and winter provides peaceful solitude for those who embrace cooler camping. Many travelers find the shoulder seasons particularly rewarding, with comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds.

This park appeals to diverse campers: retirees seeking a serene waterfront setting, families wanting water activities and outdoor exploration, fishing enthusiasts chasing trophy catches, and anyone craving a genuine connection with nature. The combination of full amenities, water access, and natural scenery makes Elk Neck State Park a destination worth planning your travel around rather than merely passing through.

Beautiful Park. A few areas are closed for repairs and upgrades. Parking for the lighthouse has been expanded and is open. So much better than the old gravel lot with only a few Parking spots. Close to North East MD.

A Peaceful spot in Chesapeake Bay. We hiked the lighthouse trail and the Wapiti pond trail. Luckily the lighthouse was open during Memorial weekend. And the volunteer who guided tourists was the descendant of the lighthouse keeper more than a hundred years ago. He spent Memorial Day in a perfect way, at the spot where he grew up. We had fun hiking, the air full of the sweet aroma of honeysuckles.... A Peaceful spot in Chesapeake Bay. We hiked the lighthouse trail and the Wapiti pond trail. A wonderful day trip.

Great quiet place to get away from busy life style. The trail has gotten shorter than before since they have constructed a new large parking lot. Looks much better than before and clean. Great picnic spot right by the water.

I visited Turkey Point Lighthouse at Elk Neck State Park on 10/26/25 for a wedding proposal. The view was beautiful, landscaping was well maintained, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Park Ranger Jimmy was extremely helpful and personable.
