About Pocomoke River State Park - Loop A - Fox Den

Campground in Maryland.

Pocomoke River State Park offers RV campers an exceptional escape into Maryland's natural beauty, where pristine waterways and lush forests create an ideal setting for outdoor recreation and peaceful retreats. Located in the heart of the Eastern Shore's scenic landscape, this state park provides visitors with direct access to one of the region's most distinctive river systems and the unique ecosystem that surrounds it.

The Pocomoke River itself is the centerpiece of this park experience. Known for its dark, tea-colored waters stained by tannic acid from cypress trees and surrounding swamps, the river creates an almost mystical atmosphere that sets it apart from typical campground settings. The river's calm, meandering path makes it perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, offering both relaxation and adventure for water enthusiasts of all skill levels. Anglers particularly appreciate this location for freshwater fishing opportunities, with the river supporting various fish species throughout the year.

Beyond water activities, the park's natural environment invites exploration and wildlife observation. The surrounding forests and wetlands are home to diverse bird species, making this an excellent destination for birdwatchers. Morning walks along park trails reward visitors with opportunities to spot herons, egrets, and other waterfowl that thrive in this ecosystem. The quietness and natural setting provide a refreshing contrast to busy urban life, making it ideal for anyone seeking solitude and connection with nature.

The location serves as an excellent base for exploring the broader Eastern Shore region. Nearby towns and attractions offer dining, shopping, and cultural experiences when campers want to venture beyond the park. The area's slower pace and small-town character appeal to travelers seeking authentic Chesapeake Bay region experiences. Whether you're planning an extended stay or a weekend getaway, the park's accessible location makes it convenient for reaching both local attractions and regional destinations.

This camping destination suits families looking for peaceful outdoor time, couples seeking romantic natural getaways, retirees enjoying the camping lifestyle, and anyone who values quiet mornings by the water and evening relaxation in nature. The combination of water recreation, wildlife viewing, and natural beauty creates memorable experiences for diverse camping interests.

We rented a cabin for a two-day stay. The natural environment is superb, and the bathhouses are exceptionally clean—truly at hotel-level quality. In our experience, this is the number one campground in the USA! Thank you!

Great park with nice hikes. Only electric hook ups at Acorn Loop. The water spigots dotted around the loop were not working. Had to get water at the dish wash area next to the bathrooms.

Love it here. Been visiting since 2021. Visited 3 times. Park is clean and well maintained. Clean bathrooms with hot water. They spray for bugs so biting bugs especially aren’t bad at all. Nice maintained hiking trails. Beautiful spacious campsites. Friendly accommodating staff who are always professional. Acorn trail is my favorite camping loop. This year we visited the nature center. Beautiful campground with tall trees and wooded sites. Some loops have electric but not water. Plenty of trails to hike and park roads to bicycle. There is a pool, a camp store, and the river to kayak on. The bathrooms are fine. One problem is the horseflies so bring bug spray! The park is pet friendly.

Great little park close to home. Not too crowded, still a pretty quiet place to go disconnect and explore. I've done some fantastic fishing out here in the past too.
