It is rough camping, but there are vault toilets and there is spigot centrally located to get clean drinking water. The campsite was super clean. We had plenty of space because it wasn’t too busy, but if it were a busy weekend, it would have been less enjoyable. We arrived after dark for a tent site, but a lot of the tent sites are small, some are unlevel and we couldn’t fit on a site. However, we have a rooftop tent on a full-size truck and probably should have booked an RV site anyway. We drove around and picked an empty site that would work for us and the office staff had no issue with us moving sites. The campground is quiet (only a little road noise) with an unbeatable view of the stars. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. Some sites had debris from the industrial days, but nothing that would harm our kids or dogs. An employee came by to drop off some wood and gave us directions to a private beach to hunt for Yooperlites. He even lent us his light and extra batteries. It didn’t disappoint, we found at least ten Yooperlites and the views were incredible. Checkout isn’t until 1pm, and for anyone tent camping that is awesome because it gives time for the sun to hit your gear and dry before you pack up. Overall, it was a great stay. We were skeptical pulling in because it is truly industrial and rustic, but it was peaceful, safe and a great place to stay with our family for the weekend. Can’t wait to see the progress…We’ll be back!
