Very unique container camping. Comfortable sleeping with plenty room to cook on my propane stove & buddy heater. Spacious sites, fire pit & picnic table. Owner/camp host's are a very friendly, fun couple. Very accommodating. Yooper lite rock hunting on Lake Superior. This is my second time staying there.

My review is similar to others - it is very rustic and when you first drive in it is very sketchy. The front end of the campground is not the best but I would highly recommend staying in the back camp sites C14 to P25. It is beautiful back there and well kept. You get a fire pit and a picnic table. We were the only people that stayed on the grounds for the evening so at first we were a little nerv... Do not go here! This place is not as advertised and we had a terrible experience. The website is misleading. Seems like a nice couple refurbishing a historical site into a rustic place to stay…maybe that was their intention that they have since abandoned. Literally, abandoned. This “campground” is NOT maintained. There is junk everywhere. Litter, oil drums, broken down cars, a ditch full of trash... Do not go here! They are in various states of disrepair. Broken furniture, missing mattresses, full of dirt. For what they are charging ($70/night) I would expect a light cleaning. Nope. According to the map, there should have been bathrooms across from our site. It was an empty concrete pad. I went to talk to them at the office/camp store, only to find out that it is vacant and surrounded by scaffolding. We called the number for two days before we got ahold of the “host.” They were aware we were traveling with two young kids and arriving in the night. It all seems dishonest and shady. Even if it was their off season, we should have been informed. I’ve requested a full refund and am waiting to hear back.

We had a great weekend camping here. I’ll start by saying that you can’t expect a resort for a rustic campground. This is an old mining site and is rough and rustic, but it is very clearly advertised that way on the website before you book. This campground has a lot of potential and they’re clearly working to get it off the ground. We had plenty of space because it wasn’t too busy, but if it were... We had a great weekend camping here. We had plenty of space because it wasn’t too busy, but if it were a busy weekend, it would have been less enjoyable. We arrived after dark for a tent site, but a lot of the tent sites are small, some are unlevel and we couldn’t fit on a site. However, we have a rooftop tent on a full-size truck and probably should have booked an RV site anyway. We drove around and picked an empty site that would work for us and the office staff had no issue with us moving sites. The campground is quiet (only a little road noise) with an unbeatable view of the stars. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. Some sites had debris from the industrial days, but nothing that would harm our kids or dogs. An employee came by to drop off some wood and gave us directions to a private beach to hunt for Yooperlites. He even lent us his light and extra batteries. It didn’t disappoint, we found at least ten Yooperlites and the views were incredible. Checkout isn’t until 1pm, and for anyone tent camping that is awesome because it gives time for the sun to hit your gear and dry before you pack up. Overall, it was a great stay. We were skeptical pulling in because it is truly industrial and rustic, but it was peaceful, safe and a great place to stay with our family for the weekend. Can’t wait to see the progress…We’ll be back!
