I have been renting a canoe from River View, for a September or October float, for probably 10 years or more now. I love this place. One noticeable thing, over the years, is the constant improvement they make to their site. Something is always being done to benefit their customers. They have the newest/cleanest bathrooms and showers I've encountered in a campsite / canoe livery. As for the canoeing, they offer fiberglass canoes, and what I really like is that the bus ride is at the beginning of the trip, rather than the end. A short 20 minute bus ride gets you to the Greenwood launch for the long trip, and then you end up at their campground. No waiting for a bus to take you back to your car. The Rifle is a great mix of slow float, maneuvering around some downed trees and boulders, and also some shallow rapids with rocks/boulders to avoid. And every year, there are eagles, great blue herons, and kingfishers accompanying the journey. Also, when on the Greenwood trip, the Moffatt launch (origin of the short trip) is a great spot to stop for lunch. Definitely give River View a try!

Our family planned a camping and tubing trip for my 4-year-old nephew who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. It was his wish to go camping, and we had 19 family members (7 adults and 12 kids) come together to make it happen. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a special and healing trip turned into a stressful and upsetting experience due to poor campground management and a blatant lack of accountability. On Thursday night, a group camped near us was extremely intoxicated and disruptive. We saw security visit their site a few times, but nothing changed. We never made a complaint, understanding that campgrounds on the river can be lively. The next day, while most of our group was tubing on the Rifle River, my brother-in-law stayed back to care for my nephew, who cannot get wet due to the IV backpack that administers his medication. During this time, the same intoxicated group set up a cornhole game on our site. When asked politely to move so we could park our vehicles, they refused. When we returned and calmly asked them again to clear our site, one member of their group called my sister a derogatory name. Tensions rose and nearly turned physical, but we chose to handle it properly by going to the front office to request help. Unfortunately, management dismissed our concerns. Eventually, Todd Golebiewski, who is the owner, got involved. My sister explained to him the issues we were having with the intoxicated group of people, but instead of addressing the group that was clearly causing trouble and had already been warned by security, he chose to evict us. My sister tried to explain that we were there for my nephew who was just diagnosed with Leukemia, but did not seem to care. The only thing I give Todd credit for is offering our group a refund. It's almost as if he knew the group that was intoxicated and harassing us. As we packed up in the dark to leave with kids and trailers, the drunk group mocked us, throwing a frisbee around our site saying how much space they’d have now. After getting home, I read reviews and saw we’re far from the first people to have this kind of experience at this campground. The management’s responses to criticism are unprofessional and deflective, and I fully expect them to twist this situation as well putting the blame back on us. Bottom line: if you’re a family looking for a safe, respectful place to camp, this is not it. We were treated unfairly, disrespected, and dismissed.

Campground was nice - definitely get a site along the river. Tubing was awesome. Weekends are packed - every campsite was booked. River was really crowded, due to all the other outfitters in the area. Weekdays are 10-20% occupied. Great time had by all - but we are definitely going during the week next year.

Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite. When we returned from tubing, we found several highly intoxicated campers had taken over the front of our sites as their party area. We politely asked them to move so we could park, but they refused. To avoid confrontation, we went to the front desk for help. Security responded, but instead of resolving the issue, the intoxicated group shouted offensive names at me in front of our children and even shoved the guard. Yes my husband did get defensive when the drunken campers called me offensive names in front of my children. My husband did yell back but never touched anyone. Despite this, the campers were allowed to remain in place. When we returned to the office to ask for a fair resolution, the owner chose to evict us instead of addressing the disorderly group. This was deeply upsetting and extremely disappointing. Instead of creating a safe, family-friendly environment, management punished the very guests who asked for help. Sadly, we cannot recommend this campground to anyone looking for a safe and welcoming place to stay.
