About Civilian Conservation Corps - CCC Camp Round Lake

This is the site of the former Camp Round Lake CCC site. Park in the Sand Dunes Ski Trailhead lot. Now a grassy clearing, the area was once the site camp buildings during the mid-1930's. The young men who lived and worked here completed CCC reforestation projects, built trails, and constructed many of the Michigan State Parks' most beautiful rustic buildings - all for $30/month plus food and clothing. "City boys surrounded by trees,". The typical CCC crew was "boys that didn't know an ax from a...

Nestled in Michigan's natural landscape, CCC Camp Round Lake offers RV travelers a serene escape into the heart of the Great Lakes region. This public campground provides a peaceful retreat for those seeking to reconnect with nature while enjoying the convenience and comfort of RV camping.

The campground takes its name from the historic Civilian Conservation Corps, a program that shaped much of America's public lands during the Depression era. Visitors to this location are camping on ground touched by that important heritage, surrounded by the careful stewardship those workers helped establish. The setting reflects decades of thoughtful land management, with mature trees providing natural shade and a sense of established tranquility that newer campgrounds often lack.

Round Lake itself is the centerpiece of the experience. The water draws anglers, swimmers, and kayakers throughout the season, offering multiple ways to enjoy Michigan's aquatic resources. Whether you're an early riser hoping to catch the morning bite or someone who simply enjoys watching the water reflect the sky, the lake provides a calming focal point for your camping days.

Michigan's location between the Great Lakes creates a unique climate and ecosystem. The region supports diverse wildlife and plant life, making this an excellent destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers. Birdwatchers find plenty to observe, while hikers and nature walkers appreciate the wooded terrain surrounding the campground.

The campground's public designation means it welcomes all travelers and maintains accessible pricing, making it an excellent choice for families and budget-conscious adventurers. The 4.1-star rating from numerous visitors reflects consistent quality and management that keeps the grounds well-maintained and welcoming throughout the camping season.

This location suits anyone craving genuine Michigan outdoor experiences without unnecessary complications. Retirees enjoy the peaceful environment, families appreciate the lake activities and natural setting, and solo travelers find safety and community among fellow campers. Spring through fall offers the best visiting conditions, though each season brings its own appeal to this classic camping destination.

Nice campground with good size campsites. Only bad thing is that it's kind of creepy how the locals constantly drive through on their golf carts like they are scoping things out. It's not just one or two but dozens of them throughout the day and going way above the posted speed limit.

Beautiful campground right on the lake. Great views right from our campsite. Pit potties were as clean as possible. Hand pump for water which kinda looks like ginger ale. Paved road and aprons in each site. Only issue is rule enforcement. Rule 2 , campsite must be occupied first night. The two pictured just dropped and ran. No sign of them since. Hope they aren't the "loud generator all night" types.

Small campground with two separate loops. We were at site 7 and although it is next to the water, there’s no access to it from this site unless you go to your neighbors site which does. Also, the sites neighbor a residential neighborhood so you may here screaming and yelling across the lake as we did. You may also wake up in the middle of the night to several dirt bikes cruising around as we did a... Small campground with two separate loops. Man, this is a hidden secret of a park. It's neat and tidy, with these terrific sand bottom lakes. It's only 12 miles from Tawas and close to both water and off-road recreation options. Fishing, snowmobiling, ORV, Kite boarding, you name it. If you are looking for a primitive campground and only need a well and a pit potty, this is a good option. Campsites all have asphalt pads for campers and the... Man, this is a hidden secret of a park. It's neat and tidy, with these terrific sand bottom lakes.
