About Island Mine Campground

Campground in Michigan.

Island Mine Campground offers a peaceful retreat in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula, where natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities abound. This public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the unique landscapes and attractions that define this region of Michigan.

The Upper Peninsula is known for its rugged natural terrain, pristine forests, and proximity to Lake Superior. Campers at Island Mine Campground will find themselves surrounded by the kind of natural scenery that makes Michigan a destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors in a more remote and undeveloped setting. The campground's location provides easy access to explore the region's natural attractions and experience authentic Michigan wilderness.

This is a wonderful destination for families seeking a genuine camping experience away from the hustle and bustle of more developed areas. History buffs will appreciate the cultural and mining heritage of the Upper Peninsula, which shaped much of the region's character. Outdoor enthusiasts, nature photographers, and anyone looking to disconnect and reconnect with the natural world will find plenty to appreciate here.

The Upper Peninsula offers a different pace of life compared to the Lower Peninsula. Visitors often comment on the friendliness of local communities and the authentic character of the region. honestly an underrated campsite. just be sure to make a fire to keep the bugs away, which there are lots of great sticks to do so. the site itself is well kept and spacious. the creek had yellow water but it tasted fine. there's some sort of train rubble about half a mile down but it's only worth seeing if you were already passing by.

Beautiful campsite in a maple forest with creek water close by. Incredibly peaceful. Campsites have metal fire rings, so campfires may be permitted here if currently allowed by park rangers. Campsites have little to no trees or brush between them, so there isn't much privacy if the campground is full.

I made a detour during my September 2016 hike across the island to check this campground out. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're in dire straights. There's no easy source of water to purify and the view is pretty much just the woods. I wasn't able to locate the mine either.

Not as scenic as the other campsites. The stream isn't much to look at, but it's close to the campsite. The campsites are pretty close together, I wouldn't look to stay here unless I needed to.

We did not end up staying here for the night, but the campsite was beautiful and peaceful. Water source was a little dry this trip.
