It was well maintained and easy to see. We hiked in the daylight but it could be possible in the dark with proper flashlights. The campground was nice with each spot spread out and decently quiet in the evening. Electric hookup only. No showers or running water but they do have a bathroom outhouse situation (vault toilet). The fishing was good. Some of the campsites offer an opportunity to fish from the campsite with direct access to the lake. Each site has a fire pit but no grate for grilling. If you want to grill over the fire you will need bring your own grate. If you found this review helpful please give a 👍.

But it was overall a nice space, and a nice view. MANY gun shots from hunters 😆 Very very dark as promised at night. The cabin had a little electic heater and surge protector cord, which was nice for the cold. Check in was a bit complicated. STOP AT THAT YELLOW PHONE! (at the entrance gate, if no one is there, thats where you have to check in) It will save you at LEAST min 30 mins and a call back from the prob one worker on site. 1st time here, would like to save you that anxiety 😅 Vault toilets were a bit of a walk ( we had snow the night we got there) Cabin has room for a nighttime bucket potty though. Pump water, use those guns, it's a workout. Fire pits were nice and deep, for the windy lake, we brought a grill to over, but it fit inside perfect. Loved the firepits. Overall it was a nice stay, super dark, very very quiet end Nov, besides the hunters :)

We visited once at the end of September which was so peaceful! We took the short walk from the dark sky park to the beach front. It was definitely worth our drive down! I also came last night to see the northern lights at the dark sky preserve, and WOW. The stars and sky were gorgeous and I love having a preserve so close!

Overall Experience: Extremely Disappointing My husband and I drove a significant distance from Kokomo, Indiana, excited to spend five nights over the 4th of July weekend at this recreational area. Unfortunately, due to a series of unacceptable issues, we packed up and made the weary drive home after just two nights. Our first site was immediately problematic. It was situated on such a severe slope that we needed a ladder just to reach the front door, leaving it five feet off the ground, and access to the back of our trailer where our kitchen was located was near impossible. To make matters worse, the entire site was foul: it was heavily covered in dog waste, resulting in a terrible stench and an abundance of large flies. The logistical setup was equally poor. The hookups were ridiculously far from our rig, requiring two extension cords and spanning 60 to 70 feet. While there were closer hookups on the opposite side, we were unable to use them as a rude neighbor was using every available outlet. Finally, the firewood we purchased was delivered so late that we had already gone to bed, and it was left unattended by the road, 50 to 60 feet from our rig.  Good thing the roads were unlit or I am sure someone would have made off with our firewood. Hoping to salvage the trip, we switched to a new site the next day. While the slope and smell were resolved, we discovered there was zero shade, leaving us exposed to temperatures of 96 degrees. After one sweltering night, we were exhausted and slightly toasted by the sun. We made the decision to cut our reservation short, feeling disappointed and out of pocket. While the staff at the check in kiosk were friendly, the overall poor condition and suitability of the sites, combined with the extreme heat and lack of preparedness, meant this was simply not the space for us. We will not be returning.
