It was a lot of fun going down the Manistee river, and seeing the Manistee National Park, we also went to the fishery there and learned about Chinook salmon and sea lamprays.

This forest was the perfect place to drive through on our way to Mackinaw City. I was driving through and there was a giant spot of dead trees. I don’t know if a fire happened, but it was truly spectacular!

MRT is highly recommended for hikers/backpackers of all levels. More experienced hikers can do the NCT to MRT loop for a great 1-3 night experience. Or just an in and back on the Manistee River Trail, as far as you feel comfortable. Slow down and enjoy the beauty of the Manistee River Trail.

We paddled 40 miles on the Pine River and spent two nights camping out along the river. It is one of my top favorite rivers in Michigan.
