One of the best primitive campsites ever! There was a campfire ring and your out beach access to lyman lake and pretty much no neighbors! This was a very secluded site! Every morning we heard elk bugling! Definitely a little slice of heaven!

Been coming here since I was a kid. It’s always clean. Plenty of space between sites, never seems too busy, and a fun nature trail. Area was so safe when we were kids we didn’t even have to be supervised but we were also well behaved.

My family stayed here four days in July 2025. I was nervous to stay since it's a primitive campground and I'd never stayed at a primitive site before with little kids (we have a 3 and 1 year old). I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this campground was, though! The sites are nice and clean. We loved the quick walk to the beach and dock on site. There are porta-potty style bathrooms, which were way cleaner than I expected! Some spigots for water are scattered too, which was helpful for refilling water or rinsing off sand. This place is pretty far from anything, though, so if you need to do a grocery run it's at least a 40-60 minute drive, either to Manistique or Escanaba! We probably did 3 long grocery / emergency runs on the trip which was rough, and you need to plan on gas fill ups. It's also far from other UP attractions like Pictured Rocks/Munising so keep in mind you may drive a lot if you plan on sightseeing. Overall great camp spot, just download maps ahead of going and plan any sightseeing trips / grocery runs wisely if you stay here.

Cleanest pit toilets I’ve ever used. The lake is great to swim in. Not good fishing. The campsites are great and spaced out to allow privacy. Was a great time!

Really nice, quiet campground. Lots of space between rows, so you back up to woods and bushes rather than your neighbor. No campsites are "on the lake" - there is a great paved trail along the lake side, which is on a small bushy rise overlooking the water. We were in campsite 31, which was across the camp road from the path and the lake. It was nice being able to take the dog and walk that trail... Really nice, quiet campground. We were in campsite 31, which was across the camp road from the path and the lake. It was nice being able to take the dog and walk that trail from the boat launch at the north edge down the the sand beach at the south edge, and then back along the road to the campsites to keep the walk as a loop. If you are camping, the "back" loop of sites away from the lake has some nice sized sites but also has the only dumpsters for the campground there across from site 35. There were also more bugs in that area as it's closer to some marsh. The Van Winkle trail starts at the south edge of the campground, by the small beach, and continues to the next lake to the west, for about a 1.25 mile hike one way. Hike itself is out and back. The beach itself is not large, but is nice and sandy, and there is a bit of playground equipment there as well. We did see a couple of whitetail deer and a number of squirrels. But they were mostly away from the campsites. All in all, I really liked this campground for a "peace and quiet" experience. Not a "fish camp" at all. I would go back for sure, and would probably look at the same section of sites again (27-31). One note: Google seems to think it's a hotel, lots of weird questions about the service and room type. So keep that in mind if weird star ratings are showing. *shrug*
