About ROUND LAKE

Federal campground in Michigan.

Round Lake National Forest Campground offers a peaceful retreat into Michigan's natural beauty, where towering pines frame pristine waters and the rhythm of forest life sets the pace for your days. Located in the heart of Michigan's scenic forest lands, this campground provides the perfect base for travelers seeking authentic outdoor experiences away from the hustle and bustle of commercial RV parks.

The campground's setting is truly special. Round Lake itself is the centerpiece, a clear, beautiful body of water that invites fishing, kayaking, and quiet moments of reflection from the shoreline. The surrounding national forest provides miles of opportunity for exploration, whether you're an avid hiker, wildlife enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys breathing in fresh forest air and listening to birdsong. The mature trees create natural shade throughout the grounds, making even hot summer days comfortable and pleasant.

This area of Michigan is rich with natural attractions and outdoor recreation. Beyond the immediate campground, the national forest system offers extensive trail networks perfect for day hikes of varying difficulty levels. Fishing enthusiasts will find Round Lake and nearby waters teeming with possibilities. The region's forests showcase Michigan's incredible biodiversity, and visitors frequently spot deer, eagles, and numerous bird species. Round Lake appeals to a wide range of travelers. Families enjoy the safe, natural environment and educational opportunities to learn about forest ecosystems. Retirees appreciate the peaceful setting and moderate activity options. Serious outdoors enthusiasts value the access to backcountry exploration. Anglers consider it a prime destination during fishing season. Solo travelers and couples seeking quiet quality time will find the serene atmosphere particularly restorative.

The national forest setting means you're camping in a place that prioritizes natural preservation and outdoor access over commercial development. This creates an authentic camping experience where the focus remains on nature itself rather than amenities and attractions. Nice campground with good size campsites. Only bad thing is that it's kind of creepy how the locals constantly drive through on their golf carts like they are scoping things out. It's not just one or two but dozens of them throughout the day and going way above the posted speed limit.

Beautiful campground right on the lake. Great views right from our campsite. Pit potties were as clean as possible. Hand pump for water which kinda looks like ginger ale. Paved road and aprons in each site. Only issue is rule enforcement. Rule 2 , campsite must be occupied first night. The two pictured just dropped and ran. No sign of them since. Hope they aren't the "loud generator all night" types.

Small campground with two separate loops. We were at site 7 and although it is next to the water, there’s no access to it from this site unless you go to your neighbors site which does. Also, the sites neighbor a residential neighborhood so you may here screaming and yelling across the lake as we did. You may also wake up in the middle of the night to several dirt bikes cruising around as we did a... Small campground with two separate loops. Man, this is a hidden secret of a park. It's neat and tidy, with these terrific sand bottom lakes. It's only 12 miles from Tawas and close to both water and off-road recreation options. Fishing, snowmobiling, ORV, Kite boarding, you name it. If you are looking for a primitive campground and only need a well and a pit potty, this is a good option. Campsites all have asphalt pads for campers and the... Man, this is a hidden secret of a park. It's neat and tidy, with these terrific sand bottom lakes.
