Custer is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.

I camped here for weeks at a time as a kid. It's VERY quiet and VRRY secluded. Go with a decent vehicle, and possibly and chainsaw and extra gas. GREAT for spotting deer at night. You CAN fish, but GOOD LUCK! Don't get hurt out here, it's a long way to a hospital. DNR makes regular stops, so purchase tickets for the campsite, if they are still doing it. Nice campsites that aren't right on top of each other. There is a small beach area for kids or dogs to play, also a good spot to launch a canoe or kayak. Fishing isn't great in the lake, very shallow and weedy.

Beautiful remote lake campground. Some sites more difficult to reach.

If you can find it, it's a pretty cool primitive campsite. Lots of open camp areas, many with lake views, and access. Google maps doesn't tell you accurate directions. Take that straight for about 2 miles and you will see the one sign telling you that you arrived to a park. The camp sites only have fire pits. Everything else is up to you. Including trash. Unfortunately people leave their trash all over, and it's a shame. Because this is a free site which means people don't clean up after you like a mother would. So be respectful. Leave it cleaner than you got it.

Undeniably a great place to camp. As long as you like no nonsense primitive camping.
