About Saint Ignace/Mackinac Island KOA

Campground in Michigan.

Saint Ignace is a charming gateway community positioned perfectly at the northern tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, where the mighty Mackinac Strait creates a natural divide between two distinct Michigan worlds. This location has served as a portal to adventure for generations of travelers, and staying at an RV park here puts you right in the heart of one of the Great Lakes region's most iconic destinations.

The Mackinac Strait itself is the primary draw for most visitors to Saint Ignace. This waterway separates mainland Michigan from Mackinac Island, one of America's most unique and nostalgic destinations. The island is home to the legendary Grand Hotel with its famous 660-foot porch, along with countless Victorian-era buildings, fudge shops, and carriage rides that transport you back in time. The island has maintained its car-free status since 1898, making it a refreshing escape from modern life. Ferry service to Mackinac Island runs regularly from Saint Ignace's dock, just a short drive from the RV park.

Beyond the island itself, the Saint Ignace area offers remarkable natural beauty and outdoor recreation. The Straits State Park nearby provides scenic views, hiking trails, and beach access along the straits. Mackinaw City, just across the bridge to the north, offers additional attractions including the Mackinac Bridge Museum and historic lighthouse tours. For outdoor enthusiasts, the region is exceptional for fishing, boating, and water activities throughout the warmer months.

The area attracts a diverse mix of travelers: families seeking nostalgic vacations, couples on romantic getaways, history buffs interested in Michigan's maritime heritage, and outdoor adventurers exploring the Great Lakes. The cool, refreshing summers here provide relief from heat further south, making it an ideal destination from June through September. The surrounding landscape features the distinctive evergreen forests of Northern Michigan, creating a peaceful, rejuvenating atmosphere that captures the essence of pure Michigan.

Whether you're planning a week-long exploration of Mackinac Island or using this as a base camp for exploring the broader Straits region, the location offers the perfect balance of tourist attractions and natural tranquility.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary the last 3 days! It was truly amazing, the staff was super friendly and helpful, the cabin we stayed in was beautiful and perfect for us. I stayed at the St. Ignace KOA back in September during a cross-country motorcycle trip. Although I didn’t stay in an RV or tent, I reserved one of the small cabins—and the experience was fantastic. I arrived after hours, but the check-in process couldn’t have been easier. The staff left a packet with my cabin key, a map, and instructions for the next day’s check-in. Super simple and appreciated after a long day on the road. The campground itself was quiet and peaceful. I stayed from Monday to Wednesday, so it wasn’t overly crowded. The cabin was impressively clean, cozy, and had everything I needed. There was a small TV that struggled with signal, but honestly I didn’t come here to watch TV—I spent my evenings enjoying the campfire and staring up at the incredible night sky. The stars were spectacular! One note for anyone arriving after dark: the cabin area isn’t marked super clearly at night. I arrived while there was still some daylight, so it wasn’t a problem. Later, when coming back from dinner, I used a blue glow stick to mark my entryway—simple fix that worked perfectly. The campground felt friendly and safe. Other campers kept to themselves but were pleasant when interactions happened. Bathrooms and showers were clean, well-maintained, and no complaints there. When checking out, there was a slight delay since staff were shorthanded and out cleaning cabins. They provide a number you can call to speed things up, but it wasn’t a big issue for me—I had time. Amenities offered at this KOA include: • Basketball • Cornhole (Bags) • Ferry tickets to Mackinac Island • Free shuttle to ferry companies • Free shuttle to the casino • Game room ($) • Large Connect-Four • Laundry (paid) • Mighty Mack Snack Shack • Mini golf • Playgrounds • Firewood for sale • Volleyball Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at this KOA. Clean facilities, friendly staff, great cabins, and a calm, relaxing atmosphere. I’d definitely stay here again on future trips through the area.

My wife and I just got done with a week stay. The staff is super. The facilities are clean. Although the restrooms can get flying bugs in them overnight. I can not blame the staff. Bugs are attracted to lights at night. But they don't bother you. We enjoyed the stay and would stay again, no doubt.

I prefer St. Ignace over Mackinaw City always because it’s more historical and vintage. The KOA is a great place to stay because it feels like a State Park but has full hookup and activities on site. They provide shuttle to the Mackinac Island ferry ride. And, they have a laundry room. And the WiFi is great.

This is one of the best friendly accommodating campgrounds. Very clean, family oriented. We always ❤️ camp here. The hook ups are great and the lots are very natural. They have little cabins available too. We will continue to stay there when we visit the area.
