About Tawas Point State Park Campground

Campground in Michigan.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Huron in northeastern Michigan, Tawas Point State Park Campground offers RV travelers a peaceful retreat in one of the Great Lakes region's most scenic locations. The park sits on a distinctive sand spit that juts into Lake Huron, creating a unique geography that provides campers with water views and access to sandy beaches from multiple vantage points throughout the property.

This area of Michigan is known for its natural beauty and relatively uncrowded atmosphere compared to southern Michigan campgrounds. The Tawas Bay area has a rich maritime history, and visitors often enjoy exploring the charming nearby communities of East Tawas and Tawas City, which offer local restaurants, shops, and services. The towns maintain a quiet, small-town character that appeals to travelers seeking authentic Michigan experiences rather than commercial attractions.

The sandy beaches at the point are ideal for swimming during summer months, and the calm bay waters make this location particularly appealing for families with children. The natural shoreline and dune landscape create excellent opportunities for photography, nature walks, and simply enjoying sunsets over Lake Huron. Birdwatchers find the area particularly rewarding, as the location along the Great Lakes migration corridor attracts numerous species throughout the seasons.

The surrounding region offers visitors easy access to outdoor recreation beyond the park itself. Fishing is popular in both the bay and nearby streams, and the relatively flat terrain makes the area accessible for RV travelers of various experience levels. The proximity to Lake Huron provides cooling breezes during summer months, making this an excellent destination during warm weather months when inland areas become quite hot.

Tawas Point State Park Campground serves RV travelers looking for a quiet lakeside destination with natural beauty, reasonable amenities, and a chance to experience Michigan's Great Lakes shoreline without the crowded campground atmosphere found in more heavily developed tourism areas.

Tawas point SP campground is Lake Huron breach on one side and Tawas bay beach on the other giving you the best option based on the wind if the big lake beach is too windy the bayside campground beach will be the light breeze alternative. It’s one of our Great Lakes beach campground favorites!

The campground is clean and quiet with friendly staff. It is wonderfully situated between Lake Huron for sunrises and Tawas Bay for sunsets with easy walks to both. Tawas Point Lighthouse is at the park and is a nice little tour. Hiking opportunities are abundant nearby. We went to Lumberman's Monument (about a 15 minute drive) and hiked the High Ridge Trail along the AuSable. Visited Iargo Springs another day. Lots of steps (at both) but worth the effort if you are able. Beautiful views at both stops! We typically eat at our campsite but did enjoy dinner at Mango's Tequila Bar. Great Mexican food and a decent Margarita. ICE CREAM. Ice cream was the best!! We went to Tawas Bay Fudge and Ice Cream Company downtown. YUM!! Great little get away. We will make reservations for next season.

Very nice campground and beaches. Very "Pure Michigan" vibes. The beaches stretch on for nice walks and the water stays shallow for family fun and swimming and sports.

Beautiful getaway! Take the time to take your time. Two days is not enough. Spot 101, close to shower/restrooms. Friends stayed in 50--shaded near the dog beach. Had a lot of people, but still quiet and peaceful.

A summer retreat that would find its place on your calendar every year. Not a place to be missed if you are in Detroit during summer time. A lovely experience for kids, adults, seniors, and pets. This can be a perfect day trip or even a weekend getaway.
