About Bay City State Park Campgrounds

Campground in Michigan.

Bay City State Park Campgrounds offers RV travelers a gateway to one of Michigan's most charming waterfront communities. Nestled along the Saginaw Bay shoreline, this state park provides an ideal base for exploring the rich maritime heritage and natural beauty of the Thumb region. The park's location puts you within minutes of Bay City's vibrant downtown, where you'll find excellent restaurants, unique shops, and the fascinating Bay City State University Marine Heritage Center that celebrates the area's shipbuilding legacy.

The Saginaw Bay itself is a highlight of any stay here. This massive freshwater bay creates stunning water views and offers excellent opportunities for fishing enthusiasts, particularly for walleye, perch, and bass. Whether you're an angler hoping to land a trophy catch or simply someone who loves watching the water, the bay provides endless scenic enjoyment. The calm waters near the park are also suitable for boating and other water activities, making it a haven for water-loving RV campers.

Beyond the water, the surrounding area offers plenty to explore. The region is known for its agricultural heritage and natural attractions. Nearby you'll find several nature preserves and trails perfect for hiking and wildlife observation. Birders especially appreciate this location during migration seasons when numerous species pass through the bay area. The sandy beaches and natural shoreline provide peaceful spots for walks and photography.

Bay City itself deserves time in your itinerary. The city has undergone wonderful revitalization in recent years, with events and festivals throughout the year that draw visitors from across Michigan. The farmers market, if visiting during season, showcases local produce and crafts. We were visiting family and they brought us here for the day. It is absolutely beautiful here. Nice and clean. There is tons of parking and places to picnic. Whether you want to play at the beach or take the kids to the splash pad, there is something for everyone.

Enjoyed a peaceful walk around the lagoon. Checked out the splash pad and amazing play structures. Plenty of parking. The campground was well maintained and had many sites which were perfect for pitching my tent. I will definitely be back!

Lovely park.. very easy to navigate and a short walk to the bay if you like that kind of thing. 2 restrooms/showers and very well maintained. I popped in for a single night with my hammock and realized it was super quiet after 10pm. Ten out of ten would stop by again. Also was able to record two owl types on a bird watching app I use. Very cool.

Bay City State Park is a wonderful location for portraits and small sessions. The beach area isn’t your typical spot for swimming or sunbathing, but it offers beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere that photographs incredibly well. I often bring couples, families, and courthouse elopements here after their ceremonies for that natural, relaxed backdrop. There’s also a large playground and designated swimming area for visitors looking to explore more of the park. The entrance has always been self serve when I’ve visited. For anyone looking for a scenic, quiet setting in Bay City — this park is a hidden gem, both to visit and to photograph.
