First off, everyone associated with this RV park is incredibly friendly. My wife and I rented a pontoon for the full day. And the owner, Pat, was gracious enough to help us launch and dock his large pontoon several times during the day. Pat is a very friendly, gregarious man. His only real goal is to make sure people have fun. Gloria, who is the bartender/cook/hostess at the restaurant is very customer service oriented. She's also a damn good fry cook. The lunch she made for me and my wife, Kathy, after a morning pontoon ride was better than great. This is definitely a 5-star retreat just an hour or so from Minneapolis.

Upon suggestion by wait staff we shared the Friday Evening Special - Steak/Shrimp combo. The meal was nicely plated for each of us. All elements were really delicious!

Absolutely beautiful! This is by far my favorite state park. The campground is large yet gives a sense of privacy, the restrooms are clean and modern, and most importantly the park itself is gorgeous.

Overall and excellent campground. I would try for any sites in the 50s as they are next to the water. Also, loop 1-24 are excellent. Most sites are large and spread out and under majestic pines. Plus, it is next to the lake and has many spots where you can tie up your boat to little docks next to the campground. Not many state park campgrounds have a marina. Brought our own canoe & gear so thoroughly enjoyed paddling Bear Head Lake. Took portage to Lake Holder but distance of that portage is NOT accurate...much longer than it says. Nevertheless, we found Lobster mushrooms in abundance which was a real treat! Remote Campsites we may consider next visit. Included bear-proof box for showing gear. Norberg Lake Trail (RT=@ 3 miles)was beautiful and well worth exploring! Helpful & friendly staff. Gorgeous picnic grounds near swimming area too...which we belatedly discovered....including a beautiful Trail Center bldg w/ wood fireplace for winter enjoyment and an outdoor firepit too! We will come back and try out the historic log cabin Camper Cabins next!
