Was shocked at how nice and far apart the sites are. 5 sites total, and 4 of them are located on the lakeshore. 2 outhouses strategically located. I'm going to camp here more often now that I've been here. You will want a truck or higher clearance vehicle to get to the meadow, which is the "parking" area. Large rocks are present directly on the trail and if you're in a car, I can pretty much guarantee your exhaust will be torn off. If it's been wet with lots of rain, you will want 4 wheel drive for sure. Once at the parking area, don't park like an idiot as there is not a lot of room and you must consider others. Follow the trails for a 200 meter walk to the sites. These are definitely considered dispersed campsites and are free unless you made a reservation with the Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center. Reservations are an astounding $75! Picnic table and fire ring available. The sites are extremely spacious and beautiful underneath the tall pines. This spot is one of my new favorites and a quick drive from duluth where I currently live

This is truly a beautiful campground. You can stay here for free, but that means you don't know how many others might be there. Only five sites on a ring. Two open roof outhouses. The drive-in gets a little rough down the end of the road to the parking area. So be careful with lower/rougher cars. But once you get in and set up it is a really beautiful part of the lake.
