About Cliff Wold's Campground

Campground in Minnesota.

Nestled in the heart of northeastern Minnesota's natural wonderland, Cliff Wold's Campground offers RV travelers an authentic gateway to one of America's most pristine wilderness areas. Located in Ely, a historic mining town turned outdoor recreation hub, this public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the legendary Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Superior National Forest.

Ely itself is a charming destination steeped in outdoor heritage. The town sits at the edge of vast forests, sparkling lakes, and endless trail systems that draw adventurers from across the country. For water enthusiasts, the proximity to the Boundary Waters is unmatched—one of the most sought-after paddling destinations in North America. Canoe and kayak outfitters line the town's main streets, making it remarkably convenient to arrange expeditions into the wilderness. Even if paddling isn't your primary interest, the lakes surrounding Ely offer excellent fishing opportunities, with walleye, northern pike, and lake trout drawing anglers throughout the season.

Beyond water activities, the area is a hiker's paradise. Numerous trails ranging from easy nature walks to challenging backcountry routes wind through the Superior National Forest. The International Wolf Center, located right in Ely, provides fascinating educational exhibits about wolves and their ecosystem role, making it a must-visit for families and nature lovers alike. The Dorothy Molter Museum celebrates the quirky history of Root Beer Lady, a legendary wilderness figure who lived on an island in the Boundary Waters for decades.

The campground's location on Fernberg Road positions it perfectly for accessing both town amenities and wild spaces. Ely's local restaurants, shops, and outfitters are just minutes away, yet you can fall asleep to the sounds of the forest. Fall visitors witness spectacular color transformations, while winter brings opportunities for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Spring and summer showcase the region's endless daylight and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities.

This destination appeals to canoe enthusiasts, fishing families, hikers, nature photographers, and anyone seeking to reconnect with the wilderness. Whether you're planning a multi-day expedition into remote country or simply want to explore accessible outdoor recreation, Cliff Wold's Campground provides an excellent launching point for an unforgettable Minnesota adventure.

Nice campground. We didn't stay but it served as our Basecamp and parking location for a canoe trip. We got to use the showers after our trip, which was refreshing and needed.....IYKYK.

Great food, great service, great time. Cliff Wold's did an excellent job helping us through nearly every step of the trip. We recieved a detailed overview of our equipment and all of our questions were answered when we arrived. We were given quality, tailored suggestions and we even received maps in which the best campsites and fishing spots were hand marked. Sure enough when we got out they were... You must definitely outfit with Cliff Wold. Come a day or two before going into the BWCA and stay a day after. Ryan will work with you to ensure your boundary water experience is hassle free from the day you arrive in Ely until the day you depart Ely. The campground is well maintained and the bathroom and shower facilities immaculate. The outhouses near the campsites are spotless.

This was an amazing place!!! We stayed 3 nights and it was perfect! If you want a place to stay and have privacy, (at the tent site) this is the place!! We even had our own porta-potty (and it was clean, and not stinky) right at our campsite! Fantastic weekend! Owner was easy to talk to and super nice guy!!!! We even rented our canoes from his Cliff Wold canoe store!
