About Interstate State Park WI - Group Campground

Campground in Minnesota.

Interstate State Park's Group Campground offers a remarkable destination for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and group gatherings seeking adventure in the heart of the St. Croix River Valley. Straddling the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota, this exceptional park combines natural beauty with excellent recreational opportunities that appeal to visitors of all ages and experience levels.

The campground serves as a perfect base for exploring one of the region's most spectacular natural landscapes. The dramatic sandstone cliffs that frame the St. Croix River create a stunning backdrop for your camping experience, while the park's well-maintained facilities ensure comfort during your stay. The group camping area is particularly well-suited for reunions, scout outings, family gatherings, and organized groups seeking a cohesive camping experience with convenient amenities and plenty of space.

Nature enthusiasts will find endless opportunities for exploration. Hiking trails wind through the park, offering varied difficulty levels and magnificent views of the river gorge. The trails showcase the unique geology of the area, with interpretive signage explaining the glacial history and natural formations that make this region geologically significant. Birdwatchers frequently spot eagles, hawks, and numerous woodland species throughout the seasons.

Water activities are central to the appeal here. The St. Croix River provides excellent opportunities for boating, canoeing, and fishing. Many visitors launch watercraft to explore the river's scenic stretches, while anglers appreciate the fishing opportunities available throughout the year. The river itself becomes a scenic corridor for experiencing the park's natural character.

The group campground location makes it ideal for those planning organized outings. Whether you're coordinating a large family reunion, leading a scout troop, or organizing a corporate retreat, the dedicated group facilities foster community and shared outdoor experiences. The park's proximity to both the Wisconsin and Minnesota sides means you can explore attractions on either state border.

Seasonal changes bring different character to the park. Spring welcomes returning wildlife and blooming flora, summer offers warm days perfect for water activities, fall transforms the landscape with vibrant colors, and winter creates a serene, quieter atmosphere for those prepared for cold-weather camping. The consistent four-point-eight rating reflects visitors' appreciation for the park's natural setting, cleanliness, and group-friendly infrastructure.

Amazing place year-round, but visiting in winter is something special. 9/29/25 2pm. A nice and interesting State Park to visit along the St Croix River. Typically busy, but not on this Monday is why we went. Barely anyone there and as a result lots of parking. It was unseasonably hot, 85, so we didn't do a lot of walking around like we usually do. The unusual rock formations in the park are a contrast to the rugged jagget rocks and cliffs along the St Croix River.

Absolutely lovely trails!!! Kept up very nice and is clean! They have very accessible restrooms as well. This is definitely a trail to come visit if you're in Minnesota or Wisconsin. The views are breathtaking and the people who visit the area are also so very kind!

One of my favorite parks. The stairs on the bluffs trail look like they need some love, but otherwise great views, lots of trail options, can ride the paddle boat for a fee (as of my post, it's dog friendly as well at no extra charge). There's canoe/kayak rental and a shuttle bus that will bring you back. Lots of options. Campground is less than a mile down the road from town.

I had never heard of Interstate State park and have lived mostly in Minnesota most of my life. So, for me personally on this Labor Day adventure the enjoyment for me was seeing a part of Minnesota I didn't know exist. I'm overweight and out of shape so was a bit intimidated by a lot of hiking. I did though see the visitor center and go a short way down the potholes trail near the visitor center... I was very impressed by what I saw and there were lots of people there and it was a short but fun enriching experience. It was nice to commune with nature and see these potholes. I'm truly amazed by the glacial potholes. I found inspiration for my fitness goals maybe to hike there someday. I will hopefully return and do a longer hike, camp etc. I really liked it there though and it was beautiful late summer weather. I highly recommend anyone check out this place.
