We stayed in a camper cabin and it was cozy for our family of five. There's not any surrounding woods in the upper campground but that's great news for camper vans and RVers. I would have preferred cabins in the lower campground, but still, it was a good time. There's a couple trails and one overlooks the lake. The big cottonwood is pretty awesome, too. I think it's definitely worth going during bird migration season and we sort of missed that! The camper cabins have a full bed on the bottom on one side, so me and my wife didn't have to split up and the kids each got their own bed. There's no bedding, so bring your own!

Great stop along the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway! Excellent place to camp with spectacular views and peaceful surroundings—especially during the week in the fall when it’s quiet and uncrowded. The giant cottonwood tree is truly something to see—photos can’t capture its immense size or presence!

Wonderful hiking trails, very wide and mowed, level, easy trail. Right now the lake is drained and they are repairing the dam, but it's still a beautiful place to visit. Very interesting to see what the lake is like without water!

This is a lovely state park due west - about 3 hours from the Twin Cities. The lake is huge, and from the Upper Campground you have a great view of the lake. We had a lovely time doing some hiking and some bike riding.
