Wildlife viewing is always a highlight—but like many other places, mosquitoes can be a factor. Be mindful of the season and recent weather. In a wetter year, the mosquitoes can be intense! So far in 2025, they haven’t been nearly as bad compared to previous visits. Still, packing bug spray is always a smart move. Overall, it’s a great place to relax, hike, bike the Sakatah Trail, and enjoy nature. Highly recommended!

It was definitely worth the stay. The lake was weedy and it was cold and rainy when we stayed. We had the kayaks with but didn't take them out. Instead we experienced the calm, quiet campground and the trails winding through the state park.

Nice quiet campground even though it was very full. The spots are a bit more spread out than some state parks and many of the spots are very private. We talked to 2 different Park Rangers, both were very nice and helpful. The closeness to the bike path was great. The dump station turn in would be tight if you had a larger camper, but if you take the last loop of the campground it looks like it would be a straighter shot. We did not have to do that as our rig is very small. Just a note to check it out before you drive down to it with your camper. The firewood sold at this park was probably the nicest wood we have bought at any other state park. I was a bit worried about that because (in our experience) the parks closer to the twin cities don't always have the greatest firewood. It was a nice quiet weekend - we will camp here again!

I visited this state park to check off another hiking club trail, so that's the only trail I explored. The trail was wide and relatively easy, and there were plenty of maps along the trails to prevent you from getting lost. There is a paved bike trail that goes through the park, and it looked very well maintained. Overall, I had a great experience here.
