About Tombigbee National Forest - Choctaw Lake Campground

Campground in Mississippi.

Nestled in the heart of Mississippi's natural beauty, Choctaw Lake Campground offers RV enthusiasts an authentic escape into the peaceful woodlands of Tombigbee National Forest. This intimate 18-site campground provides the perfect balance of accessibility and seclusion, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a genuine connection with nature without sacrificing comfort.

The campground sits along the scenic shores of Choctaw Lake, where the water mirrors towering pines and hardwoods that have stood for generations. The setting is quintessentially Southern, with Spanish moss-draped trees creating a naturally shaded canopy that keeps sites cool even during warm months. The gentle lapping of lake water against the shoreline provides a soothing soundtrack to your camping experience, while the abundance of wildlife offers plenty of opportunities for bird watching and nature observation.

What makes Choctaw Lake particularly special is its manageable size. With only 18 sites, the campground never feels crowded or overwhelming. You can escape the hustle and bustle of larger commercial parks while still having access to reliable facilities and services. The national forest setting means you're camping in a protected natural area, surrounded by miles of undeveloped forest where the night sky remains gloriously dark and star-filled.

The location is excellent for outdoor recreation. Fishing enthusiasts will find Choctaw Lake teeming with bass, catfish, and bream, making it a productive spot for both casual anglers and serious fishermen. The surrounding Tombigbee National Forest offers extensive trail systems for hiking and exploring, with opportunities to discover native plants, wildflowers, and the region's rich ecological diversity. The forest is also a haven for hunters during appropriate seasons, drawing visitors from throughout the region.

The broader area around the campground reflects authentic Mississippi culture and history. Nearby communities provide access to local restaurants, supplies, and attractions without being so close as to intrude on your camping experience. The region's heritage runs deep, with numerous historical sites and cultural landmarks within driving distance. For those interested in Southern history and natural heritage, the area offers compelling connections to the region's past.

Choctaw Lake Campground welcomes families, couples, retirees, and solo travelers who appreciate quality over quantity. Whether you're planning a week-long stay to fully immerse yourself in forest life or a weekend getaway from daily responsibilities, this campground provides the serene backdrop for memorable RV camping adventures. The highly-rated facility demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining its natural character while providing visitors with essential amenities and a welcoming atmosphere.

We had a blast on our camping trip. Clean lake and camp, There is a swimming area, playground, a couple boat docks, and lots of picnic tables with grills. We had questions and the law enforcement officer that patrols the area was very helpful, since we could not locate the park host. Cell service was spotty to non-existent. May have been just me. So do your reservations and question seeking before... We had a blast on our camping trip. Recreation.gov charged an $8 reservation fee, $20 per night plus an electric fee of $6 per night, $10 to cancel your reservation this seems too expensive. We camped here 5 nights Nov 2023 and there was no electricity up charge. Large camp sites, showers and flush toilets. Swimming, bike/hiking trails, disc golf.

Very beautiful, very quiet campground right on a nice reservoir. They have a section you can reserve and a section that is first come, first served.
