About Beartooth Lake

Campground in Montana.

Nestled in the heart of Montana's stunning high country, Beartooth Lake offers RV campers an unforgettable escape into one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Northern Rockies. Situated at elevation, this public campground provides direct access to pristine alpine waters and sweeping mountain vistas that will leave you breathless from the moment you arrive.

The lake itself is a jewel set against the rugged Beartooth Range, with crystalline waters reflecting jagged peaks and dense coniferous forests. The scenery here is the kind that reminds visitors why they invested in their RV in the first place, providing endless opportunities for photography, contemplation, and outdoor adventure without leaving your campground. The crisp mountain air and peaceful setting create the perfect atmosphere for unplugging from daily life and reconnecting with what matters most.

Beartooth Lake is an ideal destination for anglers, water enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike. The lake supports healthy populations of fish, making it a favorite spot for both seasoned anglers and those just looking to cast a line and enjoy the serenity. Beyond fishing, the surrounding terrain offers excellent hiking opportunities with trails of varying difficulty levels, allowing everyone from casual strollers to serious hikers to explore the backcountry at their own pace.

The location places you in prime position to explore the greater Beartooth Scenic Byway area, one of Montana's most celebrated drives. Throughout the region, you'll find additional lakes, mountain passes, and scenic overlooks that showcase the raw beauty of the Northern Rockies. Wildlife viewing is also a highlight, with opportunities to spot elk, mule deer, and other native species in their natural habitat.

This public campground is perfect for RV travelers seeking authentic mountain camping without excessive development or crowds. Whether you're planning a week-long mountain retreat or a shorter escape from the summer heat at lower elevations, Beartooth Lake delivers the kind of natural Montana experience that creates lasting memories and keeps campers returning year after year.

Absolutely amazing! Found by chance, will return by choice! Beautiful place alongside a rushing river and not far from town. Drive to Yellowstone is beautiful too. The staff is amazing too! Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied! We booked 4 nights for a relaxing time based on the reviews but were given a flooded site. It had been flooded for weeks (they knew about it but still sold the spot) so they installed a noisy pump right on our site in the grass. We were not able to use our site since it was muddy, ankle deep in water and full of mosquitoes. We pulled the picnic table out of... Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied! We were not able to use our site since it was muddy, ankle deep in water and full of mosquitoes. We pulled the picnic table out of the water/mud and placed it on the gravel parking pad. I understand they were sold out for the first night but all other nights there were several sites open but were not allowed to move. We were told if you don't like it, leave, knowing that in peak season we wouldn't be able to find another place. What was mostly disappointing was the Owner/management was extremely rude. They didn't care and didn't want to hear about any of it. Be careful when booking to ask if they fixed their flooding into your site since the pump is very noticeable at night and loads of mosquitoes due to the standing water.

Right on the Beartooth Highway about an hour from Billings. Right on the Rock Creek outside the town of Red Lodge, MT. We planned on staying only a few nights and stayed for 7 nights. Stunning scenery, clean campground. It was a great as a “home base”. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Perrys for your hospitality!

Next to a roadway, we heard cars all night. They ran their sprinkler system at 2:00 in the afternoon. Watered our chairs, picnic table. I had to walk through the sprinklers yo get inside my RV.
