About Gallatin River

Campground in Montana.

Nestled along the banks of the beautiful Gallatin River in Montana, this intimate public campground offers a serene escape into nature with just ten carefully spaced sites. The setting here is quintessential Montana, with the river's gentle sounds providing a natural soundtrack to your stay while towering pines and mountain vistas frame your camping experience. The Gallatin River itself is legendary among anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, flowing through some of the most pristine landscapes in the Northern Rockies, making this location an ideal base for water-based adventures.

The small size of this campground is actually one of its greatest assets. With only ten sites, you'll experience a peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere that larger campgrounds simply cannot match. This is the kind of place where you can actually enjoy starry nights without ambient light pollution, where morning coffee tastes better, and where the pace of life naturally slows down. The river access provides endless opportunities for fly fishing, rafting, kayaking, or simply wading in crystal-clear waters during warmer months. Even if fishing isn't your passion, the river creates a mesmerizing focal point for relaxation and contemplation.

Beyond the campground itself, the surrounding region is a playground for outdoor adventurers. The Gallatin National Forest offers extensive hiking trails ranging from easy riverside walks to challenging alpine routes with panoramic summit views. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with chances to spot deer, elk, and various bird species throughout the year. In nearby areas, you'll find exceptional fly fishing on multiple river systems, mountain biking trails, and seasonal activities that shift with Montana's four distinct seasons.

This campground appeals to travelers seeking authentic Montana experiences without commercial frills. Whether you're a serious angler planning a fishing expedition, a nature photographer capturing mountain landscapes, a family looking to disconnect from screens, or an RV enthusiast who values peaceful solitude, Gallatin River delivers. The quality of your stay here is measured in quiet mornings by the river, successful fishing days, connections with fellow travelers, and memories of Montana's wild beauty that will keep you planning your return visit.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The giant trees and grassy area was so nice. It was hot when we stayed and the trees allowed us to stay cool and enjoy the outdoors. I do wish they had a dumpster for guests to use. I understand we’re basically staying in a yard, but I felt guilty adding my garbage bags to the residential trash can on the property. It was nice and quiet, and Cookie, the dog on the property, was both adorable and respectful. She kept her distance while we walked our dog, but would come say hi to our kids, much to their delight. We even saw a bald eagle steal a fish from an osprey and eat it right on the property. It was pretty epic.

Absolutely an Amazing stay with the folks. Our host was incredibly accommodating in helping us in advance with our stay. Highly recommended, out in the country, away from it all!

I prefer out of the way and less traveled places, and this most definitely fits the bill. If you’re tired of the same old thing and want to actually enjoy some peace and quiet, this is a great place. Beautiful views and easy access from I-90, with whatever you need a stone’s throw away in Manhattan.

One of my favorite campsites in the valley! We have stayed here twice. We are moving east coast and have some things to wrap up before leaving and have found this place to be so reasonable and FULL hookups! Highly recommend!

We are here now and have been for 6 days. It is lovely! It is very easy to find from the interstate and easy to drive to on paved roads. It's quick to get to Belgrade or Bozeman for what you need or want to see. The 4 sites are truly nice and the big trees provide shade. Everything is well kept and clean.
