About Gothenburg KOA Campground

Campground in Nebraska.

Gothenburg KOA Campground offers RV travelers a welcoming stop in the heart of Nebraska's Panhandle region. Located in Gothenburg, a charming small town with genuine pioneer heritage, this campground provides a comfortable base for exploring the central Great Plains. The area around Gothenburg captures the essence of classic American frontier history, with the town serving as a meaningful waypoint along Interstate 80 for families and couples traveling across the country.

The Gothenburg area is rich with opportunities to connect with Nebraska's unique landscape and cultural heritage. Travelers will find the surrounding plains landscape both peaceful and expansive, offering the kind of open skies and starry nights that make RV camping special. The town itself maintains a genuine small-town atmosphere where visitors can experience authentic local hospitality and charm. Many guests appreciate how this location provides a quieter alternative to busier tourist destinations while still offering interesting things to explore nearby.

For those interested in American history, the region offers fascinating glimpses into pioneer life and Western settlement patterns. The relatively remote location means fewer crowds and a more relaxed pace compared to major tourist destinations. This makes it an ideal choice for travelers seeking a restorative break from highway driving, whether you're on a long cross-country journey or planning a regional adventure.

The KOA brand reputation for quality facilities and customer service means you can expect reliable amenities and well-maintained grounds. The 4.2-star rating from nearly 200 guest reviews reflects consistently positive experiences. We called him when we got there and he came right over, took our payment and made sure we were good to go. We left early in the morning so I didn't really get to look around, but from what I saw that night in the rain it looked like a nice place. It was quiet and I would definitely not have any hesitation to stay there again. Since it was dark I didn't take any pics.

Was looking to stay at the nearby state park, which required purchasing a car-entrance pass, and paying an online booking fee, on top of the tent site fee. Blue Heron was a much better deal and Steve was so kind and helpful. Upon arrival, he greeted us, gave us our pick of tent sites and showed us around. The campground is small but tidy and quiet. There was minimal road and train noise during the night from nearby I-80. Bathrooms were clean with plenty of paper products and soap. The town of Gothenburg is super cute. We ate at a locally owned restaurant for dinner, which Steve recommended. Nothing fancy, which was perfect for our purposes, but good food and friendly service. We walked from downtown to the little park/arboretum where the Pony Express Station was. Cute playground and informative signs about the history of the town. Steve greeted us as we were packing in the morning and made sure we had a good night, which we did. Will stay here again when next we make the trip either way. Great little campground at a fair price with friendly staff. Thanks Blue Heron!

Stayed twice now and it has nice grounds and easy pull through full hook up spots. Definitely the highlight of the stay though is Steve the camp host. So polite and accommodating. Comes out to check and see how you like your site and even if you need any help hooking up or anything and that all hook ups are working well for you. A genuinely kind man. Definitely will be staying again.

We stayed one night on a cross country trip. Easy convenience off i80, but also lots of vegetation to block out noise. Steve the manager was very kind, helpful, and accommodating. Cabins were nice, sleep 4, only one electrical outlet. Cheap tent site prices and good grass for tents. Bathrooms do have some bugs and webs, but not so bad to skip a shower. Kids loved catching fireflies. Oh and don't... We stayed one night on a cross country trip. Easy convenience off i80, but also lots of vegetation to block out noise. Also rated it four stars because it would be nice to have at least a small microwave and maybe small coffee maker in the cabin. Would definitely stay here again although cabins or maybe a little bit pricey. I felt like they should be at least $10 a night cheaper based on the simplicity of them.
