Named for the brilliant red sandstone formations that seem to glow like flames in the desert sunlight, this 42,000-acre park showcases some of nature's most dramatic geology. The landscape features towering crimson cliffs, ancient slot canyons, and otherworldly rock formations that create an ever-changing palette of colors throughout the day as the sun moves across the sky.

Absolutely gorgeous! I appreciated how easy it was to navigate the park - map is provided and signs are abundant. I stopped here for a couple hours but could have spent much more time here. Some lovely canyon trails with ancient glyphs on the rock walls. Wonderful views of the mountains in the distance. Some very fun trails going up, down, and through various rock formations. Definitely worth visiting!

Valley of Fire State Park is absolutely worth the trip and then some. From the moment you arrive, the landscape feels unreal. Every turn feels photo-worthy. The park has a calm, almost timeless energy that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy being there. We had a great time exploring, hiking, and soaking in the scenery, and it’s one of those places that leaves you already wanting to come back.

It is just a short drive outside of the city, and one of the most beautifully unique places on earth. If you go in the off-season, we went in early March, you will find the park is delightfully free from tourists. Take a slow drive down the road and I’m absorbed the gorgeous vistas, fiery glow from rock formations, and hopefully wildlife. We got lucky to see a herd of mountain goats. I’m so glad that I decided to take this little excursion outside of the city. Plus after you pass through, you can drive on the North Shore of Lake Mead, which is another beautiful site to behold.
