About Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds

Campground in New Jersey.

Nestled in the heart of New Jersey's Pine Barrens, Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds offers RV travelers an authentic escape into one of the most unique and pristine natural regions of the Northeast. Located in New Gretna, this public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the distinctive character of the Pinelands, a sprawling area of forests, wetlands, and waterways that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.

The surrounding landscape is a nature lover's paradise. The Pine Barrens ecosystem supports rare plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world, making this region incredibly special for those interested in ecological diversity and natural history. The area's sandy soil and acidic waters create distinctive ecosystems that support carnivorous plants, rare orchids, and wildlife adapted to these specific conditions. Bird watchers will find exceptional opportunities to observe both common and migratory species throughout the seasons.

Beyond the natural environment, the New Gretna area provides convenient access to several worthwhile attractions and activities. The region's rich history as a center for bog iron mining and glassmaking in the 1700s and 1800s adds cultural depth to your stay. Several historic sites and museums in the surrounding communities tell the stories of these bygone industries. Water activities are abundant, with numerous lakes, rivers, and streams offering opportunities for fishing, boating, and paddling adventures.

The location offers excellent proximity to both the Jersey Shore and Philadelphia, making it versatile for travelers with varied interests. Those seeking relaxation will appreciate the peaceful, wooded setting and slower pace of life in this rural corner of New Jersey. Families enjoy the combination of outdoor recreation and educational opportunities about natural history. Solo travelers and couples find the serene environment perfect for unplugging from daily stress.

This campground appeals to RV enthusiasts who value authentic natural surroundings over heavily developed resort-style amenities, and who want to experience a part of New Jersey that feels worlds away from the state's more urbanized areas.

They were the nicest people and super accommodating! We went tent camping and would definitely go again. They definitely have a smaller campground, so if you tend to go in your RV, I would see what size they can fit. You were also close to parks to hike or kayak in, and not too far from towns to do some exploring either. Definitely a good campground for a family.

This is a beautiful campground, set on a lake with lovely owners. It’s easy to get to and close to the Jersey Shore. There is a great brewery about 20 min away. There’s a beautiful bike path (albeit along a main road) and miles to hike. The lake is small but pretty and they have canoes for rent. Sites are wooded and spacious. The setting is absolutely lovely. However, be prepared to spend 30 minut... However, be prepared to spend 30 minutes getting into and out of your site. The roads within the campground are VERY narrow and heavily wooded. There are no easy turns and you maybe have some scars left on vehicle or trailer from the brush and or small trees that overhang the road. We are seasoned trailer pullers both with a boat and 31’ TT and it was challenging. But if you’re up for an adventure, you will love this campground.

What a terrific little retreat. The owners were quick to deliver firewood and open their store as needed for ice. The small beach and cedar lake are perfect for a hot day. Plenty of good sites for tent campers like us in addition to the full RV hookups. We will be back.
